At first I was against the trade, but I am FOR it now:

1. by pulling this trade the FO has already sent the message that they didnt think the team could win it all. If the trade falls through, expect chemistry/ego/motivational issues.

2. there's a reason Kidd is highly regarded by players around the league. Guys like Lebron and Kobe are constantly praising Kidd, and not b/c they're "friends". I think he increases our chances, by how much I don't know. Watching Dirk and everyone constantly work so hard for their shots in our ISO offense is painful for me. But Devin will be greatly missed and is a great talent. However, the window is closing. The rest of the West is getting better, Dirk and Josh are not getting younger and if we didn't win this season with our group there would have been major change this offseason anyways with the only pieces of value being Dirk, Josh, and Devin.

I'd say the consensus is that the Mavs gave up anywhere from a little to way too much to get Jason Kidd. Even most of us on the pro-Kidd side wish we'd given up less.

Still, I for one am excited about Kidd running our offense and the possibilities defensively. Even though Kidd isn't the individual defender Devin is, he is more versatile on that end, IMO. I think Kidd makes us better defensively against the Lakers and Rockets, who have relatively poor PGs but strong SG/SFs. And I thought George did a decent job against Nash the other night. I'd like to see what Josh or Hassell could do defensively against the WC PGs. They're going to have a hard time staying in front of them, but I think the rotations and team D would be pretty solid, particularly with Kidd's rebounding ability.

I just think we needed a change. I've thought that for 3 years, and I wish we'd made the trade for Kidd then.

Against.
Main concern: depth.

If the trade goes down originally as planned, that will leave the Mavs with 10 players. I am not comfortable with Faz as the backup 5.

It seems like a lot of people on this board want to play Fantasy GM and sign/trade for a backup 5, but I believe it won't happen. Mainly because there is no one to trade and no more draft picks to trade.

This team needs a 2 guard that can hit the 3 and go to the hole and finish. It also needs a capable backup at the PG.

My fantsy GM moment: Since Cuban is buddy buddy with the Maloofs pry away Udrih and Artest for Terry + 1st Rd.

i think ive come to the point where i can accept giving up harris for kidd, its the other stuff that we're giving up makes me hate the deal. so if we get kidd thats fine but i dont think we're winning anything unless kurt thomas is brought in to back up damp or someone similar.

i just think we have a better chance if devin (and everyone else) is healthy for the type of team we've built.

Diop is our biggest center and Damp is hurt to often for me to like this deal and our real weakness is the 2 and that is what I would go after. Terry is the one that needs to get traded not Harris. Unless we grabbed Curry we should not get rid of Diop.
