Brandon Roy is, in my mind, one of the 5 best SG's in the league...
Kobe
AI
Wade (when healthy)
Manu
Roy
And right now, IMO, he's probably as good or better than one or two of the other guys on this list. The only thing that he doesn't have is experience. He's gonna get experience.
Iguodala?
IMO, we should all pray that Iggy has Roy's upside.

Roy can finish way better then Iggy around the rim.

Listen...I don't hate Roy, and he is a talented young player with great upside, but I think the All Star spot is a little premature. Portland has done a great job rebuilding their team, and promoting him, which is my whole point. If 'we' can bash Iguodala for stating in a paper that he gets double teamed, then why shouldn't Portland get some grief for bribing the rest of the league?
I also don't think Iguodala is that far off the pace of being in a similar discussions of the top young players. Both need to improve and sustain to really be solidified in the discussions. It will be interesting to see how they both play in the second half of the season...and if either of their teams make moves. I personally don't know that I'd mess with the roster in Portland, but they have been mentioned in some discussions.

I don't think that ROy being an All-Star is premature...and unless you can think of a guy who I mentioned who is better than Roy, he deserves to play tomorrow....but I respect your opinion if you don't agree.
I also think that if you polled the 30 NBA GM's and asked them who they would take if they were starting a team - Roy or Iggy - it would be a slam-dunk for Roy. In fact - IMO - if I had the opportunity right now to choose among the SG's currently in the NBA who would be my starter for the next 10 years, I would take Kobe...and then I would take Roy (and it's not even close).

I think Roy is having the better year, and likely will be on a much better team for the rest of his career. Who knows if the Sixers ever get players with Aldridge and Oden's potential as an inside force.
Since they are both only 24 and early in their careers, I'm still not sure Roy will be clearly the better player when all is said and done. I think Iguodala actually still has a lot more room to grow since his jumpshot is still a rapidly improving work in progress, and his ability to find Sam when he drives suggests that he could be an even better set-up man if the Sixers get a good finisher at PF and better shooters.
I definitely agree that Roy is having the better year, but because of the conferences, the Sixers have a better shot to make the playoffs than Portland.
When I look to Portland's bright future I see Roy as less critical of a piece than the future inside presence of Aldridge and Oden. As you are quick to point out, good guards are not hard to find. Put your boy Jemario Moon with Oden and Aldridge in 3 years and you still will have a dangerous team. Put Iguodala there in 2 years and he will be seen as a perennial All Star- much like Roy will become.

I understand what you are saying tk76 but Roy does everything better than Iggy besides dunk the basketball. Roy can take any defender off of the dribble in the NBA. Iggy absolutely can not dominate any perimeter defender in the league with his penetration skills. NOT ONE DEFENDER. Iggy is allowed to be a ball handler on this team because we are a bad team and we NEED it. But with Brandon Roy he would be a ball handler on every single team in the NBA because there are only like at most 10 guys in the NBA who are better impact playmaking/scoring perimeter players. So Roy's skill set translate to any NBA franchise. On other teams Iggy would be expected to be a finisher/shooter/scorer where he will revert back into what he was back when Iverson was the ball handler here...

Iggy and Roy are pretty close SendEm. Alot closer than you give Dre credit for. That being said, Roy definitly had the better year, and thats why he is an all star. I ask you this though, Do you think Ray Allen deserved the reserve nod over Igoudala?
Iggy has him beat in every category except free throws and 3pt%.
That includes efficiency rating.
Just putting it out there

NBA coaches are smart enough to recognize when a player is putting up stats on a bad team and when a player is sacrificing his individual statistics while performing on a winning team with talent. Iggy stats are in direct relation to the Sixers lack of talent and losing record. Ray Allen could put up far better stats than Iggy if he played on a team with little talent and a losing record...
