I'd think this is a decent possibility, 1 or 2 years ago, but with how Marvin's elevated his game and basis of consistency - he's the Hawks SF of the future (probably, at least).
Possibly giving up Justin would really suck, I love the guy, but I guess you'd have to give up to get, for the overall situaion of the team for the future.
At least there's the draft for an athletic big man, and one that would be a better prospect than Justin - one with some form of respectable athleticism will need to be next to Spencer, anyway. And is favored with the depth of the bigs in this years draft (and next years, I'd guess).

I'd think that'd be a possibility with all the short/expiring contracts they have, and how many players would be in the deal.
I mean, Lue, Johnson, Salim (plus other players at other positions) all to us? Jesus christ.

Look we have 3 veteran stars on this team (I won't argue the definition of a star now), 1 of them have to go, and unfortunately the most expendable one is Mike Bibby.
If we trade Bibby for expiring we may be losing value wise, but that would put us in a situation where we can determine what to do with Artest, and O would love to be able to deal with that not being hancuffed by a very pressuring salary cap.
Bibby is worth more the SWilliams, but if that's what it takes to deal him, then so be it, we need the financial freedom, and we need another big body.

I agree with most of what you say, especially that Bibby is the 'expendable' one, but the fact is, he has exatly ONE year left. ONE. I'd rather have his LARGE contract NEXT deadline, and look to add a disgruntled STAR player using Bibby's HUGE expiring deal to facilitate the deal, a la Kwame Brown(and Bibby can actually play the game of basketball). Trading him now, IMO just screws up future opportunities to make SIGNIFICANT strides. I understand the financial repercussions, but I think in this situation, that's the wrong avenue to pursue.

Well there's no link to this "rumor". I also just did a search for anything involving Bibby and Atlanta and the only returns were to forums discussing a "possibility"...a couple citing RealGM boards as a source. My personal (albeit highly skeptical) opinion is that there is zero legitimacy to this whole thing.magicfan4life05 wrote:hey guys do you think this rumor is legit? and if indeed bibby is traded, will beno take over the starting pg position? thanks
As for the question of whether Beno would take over the starting PG role if Bibby is moved, it all depends on the trade.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

It's a radio source, fox sports radio was cited as the reference last night(Friday 2/15/08)...whether that is legit or not who knows...since it's rumored now, it's probably dead(I hope).

How about both? No reason why that can't be, either. Shelden's more of a center, too.
Regardless, it's a serious possibility we'll draft a big man this draft.

And what if no disgrunted star wants a trade? What if everyone is happy where they are at in terms of star players? You can't bank on a kwame type trade. Also, outside of kwame, what other expiring in recent history has had any sort of trade value?
You do whatever helps your team, and trading bibby now helps us the most. Smills, you're just afraid of losing

If thats the best the kings can do for a Mike Bibby trade then why not, but if they can get more and add a kenny dump then i can sleep happily.
And if we can get another first round pick that would be nice cause then we can draft a pg and a big. Thats what atlanta doesn't have to offer us,thats why im a bit iffy about the trade.

History would say otherwise, there's nearly at least ONE big trade/year in regards to a 'disgruntled' star player. I'll take my chances there, and guess what, if you wait it out to increase your opportunties, you can STILL get a Shelden/Salim type package THEN. It's worth the wait IMO.

There may be legs to this deal: Amick(who is a sound reporter IMO) now has the Bibby rumor on his blog, and he mentioned the name of Josh Smith, not sure how he figures into any Bibby deal. But he mentioned him...which is interesting to say the least.
