Well, you got to hand it to the Kings fans... When they said they were going to get a nice package for Bibby, they weren't lying...

This definitely changes the balance of power in the west...

LOL

Seriously.

LOL

After calling us all the names in the book for all of our "horrible trade ideas" this is what they end up doing?

LMAO

Absolutely hilarious. The centerpiece of their return is Shelden freaking Williams. What a joke. Hope Petrie is proud of himself for costing his franchise with his stubborness.

Stuck with Thomas and getting that return. Poor poor Kings fans.

Lol if a Hawks fan or something would have posted this on the trade thread like 2 months ago, ALL the Sac fans would be irate and say thats even worse than what Cleveland was offering to land Bibby.

THAT is whats frikin hilarious about this trade, I dont really care for Bibby either way, (Mike Miller FTW), but the blind ignorance of some people on RealGM never ceases to amaze me.

Thank Gawd..I'm so sick of hearing about Bibby.
Now the Kings fans can stay off this board.

LOL about this 'package'. Kings fans were demanding teams take back Kenny Thomas and surrender first round picks for Bibby. I'd be much happier with Mike Miller or a younger PG like Lowry, Jack, or West.

It's funny that Kings fans are trying to spin this as a good deal for them. Shelden is okay but by no means is he an upgrade over what Gooden would have been. Now they are even out saying that they didn't expect to unload thomas when in fact that is what every single one of them came over here and said.

Sheldon is a bust..I guess Sac gets the extra 4 million in expirings this year but really what can they do with it? Won't they still be over the cap.

They should've just held onto Bibby. Maybe they could've gotten a better return next year when he was expiring. They must've been real desperate to dump him for such a bad package.

Think of it this way, at least Lue won't be in the East anymore since he has a propensity to light us up.

After a quick look around realgm, Smills is absolutely getting grilled everywhere lol. I would almost feel bad for him except he was so wrong and so insistant he was right about everything.

Reality Check.

3 things:
1) Consider what had to be included with Gooden: NON expiring contracts. The Kings would have had to take back either Marshall, Snow, or Jones. That means they're paying the remainder of 1 of those 3 salaries this year AND another $4-6mil next year. That would have caused a lot of problems and taken away just about any flexibility the Kings would have had this summer (since they'd want to stay under the tax level)

2) Kings fans only thought they'd dump Thomas on the Cavs because of the point made in (1): they weren't getting expiring contracts back. A few weeks, maybe a month or so, ago there was a thread in the trade section about Bibby's value. Most unbiased people agreed with me when I said the following:

Bibby is worth expiring contracts and a 1st rounder/young player. If a team CANNOT give expiring contracts or they cannot give an immediate 1st rounder (or young player)--say a 2009 1st instead of 2008--then they're going to have to tempt the Kings in some other way by adding more value. That value would likely be Kenny Thomas.

3) I actually think Shelden MAY be better for what the Kings are trying to do than Gooden is. Gooden is OBVIOUSLY the better player right now but the Kings needed to put a guy with a certain skill set next to Hawes. Williams is the right type of player but his talent level is an unknown right now. I actually made a trade proposal sometime at the start of the season that may have been this exact trade (w/o the 1st rounder). The reasoning being:
a) Williams fits the defense, rebounding, shot blocker that the Kings need to put next to Hawes for the future (Gooden does NOT fit that mold)
b) Williams is still on his rookie contract for 2 more years making 50-70% of what Gooden makes
c) The fact that Shelden played for Coach K tells me that the guys basketball IQ is pretty high and that he may have some skills that haven't been displayed with the Hawks.

^^Trajan Langdon, Danny Ferry, and a bunch of other NBA busts also played for coach K...believe me Williams is a huge bust that had no business being drafted in the lottery. Atlanta reached but lucky for them are able to pawn him off as a 'project'along with ending contracts for Bibby.

I'm happy for Atlanta. Bibby should be a good fit for them. They are not a 'contender' but they are a playoff team now.

As for the Kings, don't fall for the propaganda. They settled for expiring contracts for Bibby. I wouldn't count on getting much improvement out of Sheldon Williams...he is what he is. Justin Williams may have more of a ceiling.

This is Shelden's SECOND year in the league. Calling him a bust is beyond premature. And I didn't say anything about playing for Coach K meaning he's some great player. I said playing for Coach K means the guy more than likely has a high basketball IQ (which inferred Gooden's LOW basketball IQ)

Hrm. Should I respect your talent evaluation or Geoff Petrie's? This is a REALLY tough one.

Well, we're no GM's here... But this is the same guy that traded both Bibby and Webber and got no talent in return...

He's had over 110 games in the NBA and he'll be 25 very early in the season. Those kinda make one lean towards the bust comments. The fact that he's undersized and can't get much playing time on a team that needs big man play (and he's being outplayed by a rookie) make the argumen a bit more legit.

This is the same guy who got Webber & Bibby for trash and has had ONE bad draft pick since he's been on the Kings. He pulled Kevin Martin with a late 1st, he picked up Garcia with a mid-late 1st, he pulled Hedo with a mid 1st, he pulled Peja with a mid 1st. Should I go on?
