You have to take in consideration that he is still rusty from a year's absence...

How about last year when he shot only 40%... And averaged less than 5 assists per game.

I used to be a big Mike Bibby fan, that guy is clearly on the downside of his career though. He has had some major struggles and to say he is still as good/a better player than Mo Williams is just crazy.

They are trading the #5 pick from last year + others for an aging PG whose game is in decline (page from your book).

That'd be like if we traded Yi for Andre Miller next year.

Would that be a great trade? It would make us better.

They traded the No. 5 pick from last year's draft who isn't all that good for a PG who is still significantly better than anyone they have and who addresses the team's biggest areas of need - PG play and proven playoff experience. Shelden Williams is not on Yi's level. He's been a disappointment and they happen to have at least two PFs who are significantly better (Josh Smith and Horford although Horford is playing center for them). So they gave up nothing of value on their team presently and addressed their biggest areas of need and did not damage their long-term future in any way in the process.

Yup. That's a great trade for the Hawks.

I don't think Bibby is a very good player at all anymore, he is a below average starting PG the way I see it.

But I do agree that this was a good deal for the Hawks, I would have done it if I was them too.

I agree his game is in decline. No argument. However, he's still a rather big upgrade for them and again I'll talk about how valuable his proven playoff experience will be for them. They're going to need that badly if they make the playoffs and Bibby has proven countless times over he's a big-time player in the playoffs. That has value to me and it would appear it has value to the Hawks as well.

Wow thats terrible logic. Yi is a skilled big man, who was taken 6th in a deep draft. Williams has size and is a decent defender, but not much else. He was taken 5th in a weak draft with basically no big men.

Think about that for a moment.

Wow Europa that really hurts. I always laughed at Atlanta and their management offseason after offseason while loading up on small forwards. But yes, they do have a brighter future. They have tons of athletic players, and are a veteran pg away from really becoming a tough team.

The bucks have no identity at all right now. They need to get a gm locked up long term (harris or whoever), have kohl stay out of the way, and decide if they want to be a high scoring shoot out type team with their scoring (chucking) backcourt, or build around bogut to become a more halfcourt team with better defense.

I think the Bucks are close to becoming what the Hawks used to be - a team that spent year after year in the lottery (in Atlanta's case it was eight straight years), making picks that didn't change anything and having no clue about how to properly build a winner. They were enveloped in the culture of losing I've talked about with regard to the Bucks. They seem to be emerging from that now after nearly a decade. Will it take the Bucks that long to figure things out? That's my concern if they keep spending so much time in the lottery.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure this team can afford another decade of losing and still hope to remain the Milwaukee Bucks.

Lord knows if I had a young running team, I'd want a broke down, old, slow PG with little in the way of passing instincts.

It sure is fun watching other teams make good trades.

They are giving up their 5th overall pick from last year for an average PG for half a year.

It's far from a no-lose scenario for the Hawks, but on paper it makes them better.

As stated, he was the fifth pick in a weak draft and he's done nothing thus far to indicate he was worth the pick. In fact, you can make a compelling argument that the pick was a poor one (another reason why banking on the lottery every year is such a dicey proposition). Plus, the Hawks have players on the roster at his position who are significantly better and they have no one on the roster as good as Bibby or who comes close to matching his playoff resume. If Bibby doesn't work out, they can always move his expiring deal next year. I see no downside to this trade at all. I love this trade for the Hawks.

When was the last time we talked about a trade in which the star player went to Atlanta?

Rasheed Wallace. And they turned around and, as part of a three-team deal, gift-wrapped the NBA title for the Pistons by trading him for two dead car batteries and three sticks of used chewing gum.

Its true he could be a Marcus Fizer, but Sheldon could turn out to be a legit player. He hasn't gotten much clock because of Horford (not a knock on him IMO) Its a good deal for the Hawks, I just disagree that there is no downside.

I don't think he'll ever be as good as Smith or Horford. I think we're in agreement on that, right? You could argue they maybe could get more in the future if Williams improves but they badly needed a PG and one with proven playoff experience. Bibby qualifies on both. Plus, his deal will expire next season so it's not like they're on the hook with him long term if he doesn't pan out. I just don't see any downside here. I think it was a good move and one that won't hurt them either now or in the future if it doesn't work out. I don't think they're going to miss Shelden Williams given the talent they already have in the frontcourt with Horford and Smith.
