Just dropped by to share a little with the Kings fans about Shelden Williams. I'm was not a big fan of Shelden Williams, but in fairness it wasn't his fault he was drafted too high. His play hasn't been erratic, he has been given no chance by Coach Woodson. On 1/4 he got 26 minutes and pulled down 7 boards. He's gotten 50 minutes in the 20 games since then. With consistent minutes and some decent coaching he can be a good banger at this level. He had some real promising outings last year when getting playing time.
The other thing to point out is that the Hawks made a change in respect to their big man coach in the off season switching from Tyrone Hill to Alton Lister. Not to lay it all on Alton Lister, but Shelden, Zaza Pachulia, Solomon Jones, and even Lo Wright have had their effectiveness and stats per minute go down (a lot).
I am happy that Shelden is getting away from our pathetic excuse for a coaching staff. You don't have to be big fan of Shelden to realize that he works hard and can be a lot more than he was given a chance to be in Atlanta.

This is a great trade for the Kings. What can Atlanta be thinking? Look at the salaries of the Hawk's players and it looks like Petrie went through the lineup picking up all of the major expirings, at least 8 million dollars.
Forget the players, they may be garbage but what a haul. The Kings have room to take on salary or make a serious move.
Hats off to Petrie and the Kings.

Most likely D Jones and hopefully buyout Kenny Thomas.
I cant see them waiving Beno so maybe they will waive one of the incoming hawks...Ty Lue
I agree that DJ has probably seen his last game as a King. My guess also is that one of the incoming Hawks gets cut, IMO either Wright or Johnson (I think Theus may want to experiment with Lue).
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

Atalanta made a very good deal, Bibby is a lot better than anything they had for a PG, and he's the off the ball shooter they really miss.

Can a team exceed the players limit after the trade and then start cutting? I thought you need to have the space before the deal, but I'm not sure.

None of the players traded for Bibby are remotely athletic.
Shelden should be a decent player for Sac if he starts. He is a very good rebounder and averaged 10/10 the last month of the season last year granted it was against bad competition. He's been pretty bad off the bench but I think his rookie numbers are a better indicator of what he can do.

Maybe. But not with Smith, Childress to concentrate on, and Marvin there.

Agreed. And again, like I've been saying.

Interesting points.
------------
Don't get all down on Shelden Williams until he shows over a sustained period to do so. There's more for him to get better than not.
The Playoffs don't care about your Analytics

You have to be kidding. Atlanta is a lot further away from being a contender than just Mike Bibby. You make a move like this if you are that piece away. Instead Atlanta has just tied up their cap space, at a time when they need to keep building and adding pieces that will mean a great future. Bibby is a shooting point guard on a team that relies on Joe Johnson to hit from the perimeter. Atlanta needed a point guard that defends and distributes the ball. Bibby is not the answer and Atlanta has made a poor move giving up all those expirings.

If you want to see why this trade was made look at this:
http://www.shamsports.com/content/pages ... /hawks.jsp
Forget the names of the players. It's as if Petrie went down the list and picked all of the expiring contracts. The method here is clear.

Who said anything about contending? They don't have their draft pick, they need to stop a PO drought, they have their prospect at PG whose game similar to Mike, and need some veteran presence, smart PG play (not necessarily assist racking) and shooting, which is exactly what Mike is.
They still have enough space to re-sign the Joshes, and they were over the cap anyways so it didn't hurt them by disabling their ability to go after a FA.
It's a great deal for the Hawks, they gave unnecessary pieces for a needed one.

Technically the 14 player limit is a MINIMUM limit set in the CBA. I believe teams can exceed that number...they just rarely do.
