OT: Biiby traded to ATL

Post#1 » by tk76 » Sat Feb 16, 2008 9:12 pm

Not on wiretap yet, but Bibby is being traded for Sheldon and expirings.

1> Do you think Bibby and his 13.5M contract (expiring at the same time as Miller's) is seen as more or less valuable than Miller?

2> Would you have taken a similar deal from ATL for Miller? I know most here are not exactly high on Sheldon, so I would assume not.

I'd imagine Miller will get a similar (probably a better youngin and late first rounder) package if he is traded.

I think this now almost guarantees Artest will be next.

Hopefully Stupid Ass Smith is actually right for once and we pull off that Artest trade, cause that would be a really good move both now and in the future.

Trouble is that Sacramento just took on 4 new contracts...Sixers can't get Artest without sending 3 more players West. That's a +5 roster gain for the Kings...they have some other transactions to make before they can make another move like this.

Alot of Hawks fans have wanted Miller from the jump because he's a better fit and more durable than Bibby. The problem is that Shelden's value got worse as the season went on and you guys are now in a position to make the playoffs so he probably wasn't avaialble.

I would say Bibby has more value then Miller. He is younger and has had alot more playoff success. I would also argue that Bibby is the better player overall.

With that being said, it looks like the Kings really wanted expiring contracts, so maybe we good get better talent back(or picks) if we are not taking back expiring contracts.

I hate to see us trade Miller just for cap space, especially considering that he only has one year left after this one on his contract.

People trading for Bibby (or Miller) are not looking for youth. They're looking for now. Bibby's a horrible defender coming off a very bad injury and hasn't shown he can return to his previous form yet. Miller's having arguably the best year of his career. And Miller makes less. IMO Andre definitely has more value right now than Bibby.

I think the Sixers' playoff chances have suffered a serious blow with this trade as well as the Kidd trade probably not going through.

I would have just because Lue,Wright & Anthony Johnson are all expiring contracts for a total of $9 million. To do that deal we would have had to add Willie or some filler. Sheldon could have been a trade chip this summer and we would have had 19 million in space instead of 10.

I seen the first game that Bibby played this season and I was impressed. I'm not even going to look on nba.com and see what he has done since then. But Bibby is a better playoff player than Miller on a team with finishers because in the playoffs Miller usually becomes the weak link because teams sag off of him and leave him open for all of the jumpers he wants to take.

Does this deal make the Kings a player in free agency this summer or are they still capped out?

The Kings got back GARBAGE for Mike Bibby because at this point in his career Mike Bibby is Garbage. I believe Andre Miller has more value than Mike Bibby. Mike Bibby is a better playoff point guard??? When was the last time Mike Bibby played in the playoffs?

If Ed Stefanski would have made that trade for Andre Miller I would have jumped off the Ben Franklin Bridge!

Only if Artest opts out.
Don't worry, that builds character and you can never have too much character...

I think this is good for us if we are looking to pick up josh smith in the offseason since now it'll be harder for the hawks to resign him since they wont have as much space since they gave up most of their expirings

How long before we read about how LeBron is upset because the Cavs didn't get Bibby? Either way, Artest is definitely getting moved in the next couple of days and so it'll be interesting to see if he finds his way here.

Also, does this mean that Sacramento will now be a player this off-season??

By my calculations, if they don't deal Artest and he doesn't opt-out, they are well over the cap.

If they deal Artest (and get all expirings in return) or if he opts-out, I think they would only be a couple million under the cap.

From what I can tell, right now, they will have more to use via the MLE than in cap space so they won't be a FA player unless they get expirings for Artest.
