I don't see why the Kings would want Maggette. He doesn't fit into the team's situation, and it creates a bit of a log-jam at SF. Which also effects Douby, because Garcia and Salmons see guard minutes, as well.

Salmons, would take over at SF in place of Artest. He also complements Kevin Martin better than Maggette would.

So, no, I don't think the Kings would go after Maggette.

I also don't see why Maggette would want to come to the Kings. I see him staying with the Clippers or going to a legit playoff team.

It's not that simple. And I'd bet Petrie tried to put him in the deal before being told no.

Good trade for Atlanta, they really, really need to end their playoff drought, and are well in the battle for one of the final spots, despite the fact they have no real PG. Bibby is declining, but he's still a good player, a true PG, and it's not like they've mortgaged their future to get him... he comes off the books after next season, by which time they've got to hope Acie has shown he's a gamer.

Bibby is also the best player in the trade, which is what I think you look for in any deal - getting the best player.

For Sacramento, it looks to be all about cap relief. I don't think Sheldon is a very good player, but at least he has a pretty small salary.

By the by, there is absolutely no chance Artest comes back to Sacramento next season. Kings can let him walk for some more cap space, but wouldn't it be better to get a pick as well? If so, they'd better act fast.

Edit: LeBron's gotta be getting really ticked now, with the inability of Danny Ferry to add any talent whatsoever towards improving the Cav's playoff prospects... despite the fact they are supposedly willing to pay the tax to improve their prospects.

Here is a letter from the Kings

Since you are a valued Season Ticket Holder, we wanted you to be among the first to know that the Sacramento Kings have acquired forwards Shelden Williams and Lorenzen Wright, guards Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue and a 2008 second round draft pick from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for veteran guard Mike Bibby. The deal was announced today by Kings President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie. In a related move, the Kings requested waivers on forward Justin Williams and guard Dahntay Jones.

"Today we acquired Shelden Wiliams, Lorenzen Wright, Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue," explained Petrie. "We're excited about adding another young frontcourt player who was the fifth pick of the 2006 draft in Williams, along with some experienced veterans to the team. We're looking forward to seeing how they integrate in with the rest of our roster.

"I want to thank Mike for his terrific all around play. He's had a great run here as a King and has participated in and contributed to some great moments on the court and I wish him all the best."

No we dont. K-Mart's new contract will go into effect and take up most of our cap space. Unless we trade Ron and KT for some expirings, we wont have much cap space to play with.

GOOD TRADE. Haven't seen enough of Williams in the NBA but he was a beast at Duke on the defensive side. We'll see how he turns out with fresh start and more playing time. Props to Petrie for finally taking that first step into rebuilding, hope it continues with Miller,Thomas and Artest. Wish we could have traded Mike a year ago, we could have gotten a better deal. Still this move will allow our young players to develop and move up in draft.

Our Cap # according to Hoopshype with a couple of assumptions:

*Artest DOES NOT opt out
*Martin will be paid $10M Next year

will be around $58.1M

If Artest walks away it will be around $49.6M

I am not sure how much I like this move. I understand it frees up money for next which is decent for us, but yeah I really dont know. I hope Sheldon Williams can come in and either become the starter at the 5 or become an important players coming off the bench.

It should be around $53M because Williams will have one more year left before the team option.

Well, I don't think so at the starting five (Spencer), but think he really can be a good bench big man. I expect him to turn out as something significant for us, anyway.

so whats the depth chart look like now??

C- Miller, Hawes, and Wright

PF- Moore, S. Williams, Thomas, and Abdur-Rahim

SF-Artest, Salmons, and Garcia

SG- Martin and Douby

PG- Udrih, Lue, and Johnson

this accurate for now?? it will prob change with artest probably traded

roster looks good and a lot of young talent...martin is 25, hawes is 19, douby is 23, garcia is 26, and shelden is 24. all this team needs is a PG and maybe a SF id say and prob a big man too

What out there makes this a good possibility? Or do you expect something serious to develop? As your prediction? Because until the latter happens, there's nothing looming around right now that says Ron's going to be dealt.

Everything is speculation until a substantial situation emerges. Denver was not an example of that because of how things broke down and the latest on that (not working).

AWESOME!!!

Beno has not been comfortable coming off the bench lately, so it will be great to see him starting once again! I think people forget that he pushes the ball up quicker than Bibby (which Theus wants) and when he was starting, was putting up similiar numbers (to what Bibby was averaging) Plus, Bibby was REALLY struggling lately with his shot selection.

I think Petrie has another trade planned, personally. I think if he can get rid of Artest/KT in the same deal for expirings....oh man. GENIUS!

I will be really excited for this offseason !! :D :D :D

Finally I get to a computer. To think I spend way too much of my time on these forums, but I have found out so many of our big moves over the years (Webber trade, Artest trade, and now this) from other sources (this time from a friend that goes to the Naval academy--go figure).

Anyway, personally, I really like the trade. Like I have been saying for a while now, this basically had to happen because of our financial situation. That's why Mike was always the one that was going to be traded first.

And personally, I have always liked Sheldon. It's not his fault he was picked way too early. But the guy is a big tough player that can defend and rebound, and hopefully intimidate and he's competent offensively. While he was certainly a reach in his draft and he certainly won't be a franchise player or anything like that, if the Hawks hadn't picked him, he was really probably still, at worst, the 10th ranked prospect in that draft (probably more like 8th), so even though it was a weak draft, that's saying something. I remember at the time that I rally wanted to trade up for him, and now we've got him!

My only complaint about this trade will be if Justin really is gone. That would really disappoint me.

But as many of us have said before, in reality, fair value for Mike at this point is really expirings and a late 1st. We got better than that today.

I would be surprised if Justin's deal hadn't become guaranteed. Don't all deals become guaranteed sometime in December? Oh well, truth is there REALLY weren't going to be any minutes for Justin now. May not even be any for Shelden to be honest. Unless we quit using Ron at the 4 entirely, and limit Mikki's minutes.

Hawes and Shelden will have to share minutes regardless and that could be difficult. I really hope they cash this season in pretty soon and start playing the young guys. It's starting to get rediculous!

Agreed, mitch.

I was wondering when you'd chime in on this, and I knew you also were into Shelden. To spread some more support for him.

And yeah, Bibby was always the more favorable one to be dealt between he and Ron because of the factors involved. I thought that going to back to last summer.

I actually found out about both about the Webber and Artest trades on vacation.

trade

Post#160 » by dozencousins » Sun Feb 17, 2008 7:28 am

this is a trade that can possibly be a domino affect for ud dealing the likes of artest hopefully packaging him with k9 even possibly dealing b.miller to orlando doing everything we can to free up alot of cap space

i think petrie if he frees up more money making a run at josh smith or l.deng to name a couple of young talented guys

honestly guys dont be shocked if we do sdeal miller we are overloaded at the centers and power forwards positions

in reguards to justin williams i think petrie will bring him back but after the trade deadline so he can see what other trades he will or wont do 1st !

sheldon williams is a fantastic talent if theus gives him enough playing time he will shine it will be nice next season to see hawes and sheldon complimenting each other
