OT Dunk Contest
Did you see Gerald's dunk? Blew out the candle then dunked! That was awesome, Gerald got screwed though, should have had a 50.
PS Dwight's was done last year by either Gerald or Iggy.

The Superman one was impressive but throwing the ball through the hoop is not a dunk. That should not have counted as a dunk. that was a shot not a dunk.
The tap the ball off the glass with one hand catch and dunk the rebound with the other was a great dunk.

Underrated on it's own, yes. Just because of difficulty though. Too bad he ruined it with the dunk before. Not even bias because I'm a Raptors fan, but I still think Moon's alley was better than Green's bogus windmill/ladder dunk. Even Rudy's were better than that.

Star power won the day. It was obvious that everybody wanted the young superstar to win.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

The Dunk contest is a joke. That is what it has become. Pretty lame dunks. The same old crap, over and over. Howard's was quite overrated. So a guy who is 6'11" can put on a superman costume and jump so his hand is over the rim and throw it in the hoop. Whoopie!!! Also, the whole timer thing is the lamest. If you miss, you should be out.

agree, but again..... its the jump on the howard band wagon year. dont get me wrong he did some excellent dunks. but the one everyone is raving about wasnt a dunk.
as said above, he stepped way past the foul line and way past his tape and in the end missed the dunk by a long shot. if thats what they are gonna let pass for a dunk why dont we change the name to the layup contest.
everyone is making a big deal out of it and his best dunks were before that.
stop calling it a dunk people. he missed!!!! its annoying. how many contestants have missed before ? have they called it a dunk then ? so a bigfoot type of player wears a superman shirt and cape and suddenly its a dunk when its not.
give me a break. it was cheesy, corny and gay. oh ya...........
it wasnt a dunk either.

Come on Captain No Fun. If you can't get amped for that dunk contest, then you got to loosen up a bit. I swear some people won't be impressed unless dudes are dunking from halfcourt. This dunk contest had at least 3 or 4 "damn, did he really just do that?" dunks.

i dont know if people are jsut hating because D12 was AMAZING.. It is soo hard to do thiings that have not bee done before but D12 did that. HE got the crowd behind him, he used props, he was amazing. The thing that made the superman dunk so amazing is that he was supposed to look like he was flying with the arm out in front and to his side. The tap dunk was IMPRESSIVE because its all hangtime.IMO GG only good dunk was the birthday cake because the rest lacked creativity.

I was drinking red wine all night, I don't think I could be any more loose. Just didn't see the "did he really just do that" stuff. The candle thing was cool. The superman thing was just stupid. If he didn't dress up like superman, everyone would have been saying, "that is not a dunk". Gimmicks never really interest me. They should turn the dunk contest into a game of HORSE of dunks. Then maybe it would be a challenge. Giving guys 2 minutes to do something they have been practicing for awhile just seems dumb and not very challenging.

Wow I thought I was the only one. I thought he superman thing was cool, but as I was watching the replay I was like wait do they know he didn't dunk? Does that even count. Then Kenny smith was too worried about creaming himself to have it even matter. To jump off from a few steps past the free throw line and miss the dunk is a 50?
The tip to himself dunk I thought was okay but nothing spectacular. I relate it to Gerald's blow out your candle dunk. Probuly lesser then Green's. Okay I can't dunk but I'm pretty sure that dunk wouldn't be that hard to do by any of the dunk contestants outside of small guys like Nate Robinson. I felt like if there was a situation for an alley opp of a guy going straight down the lane, I could see that dunk pulled off in a game. Honestly he just tiped it to himself off of an alley-op with no one around. Woopied-doo
And agian the keep the ball on a smaller hoop, decent but not great 40ish.
That said Dwight had the most decent dunks. Nothing special though.

Howard's last dunk (that took 2 attempts) didn't seem too much different than Green's second dunk (46) and wasn't as good as his first or any one of them thrown off the side of the backboard or stanchion.
The camera angles benefited Howard. You used to get angles where from the floor where you could see how high they jumped.
A few times Howard's feet were only about 12" off the floor when he dunked, which wasn't really impressive to me. Howard's standing reach is 9.5" higher than Green's.
I think there was only one spinning dunk last night and the rest were straight runs at the hoop.
Was the superman dunk really that much better than Moon's or was it even a dunk at all? I actually thought he came up short and just threw it through.
I thought Howard should have won but it wasn't a run away win like the whole thing played out. He had 2 creative dunks (only someone his size and abilities could keep his head on the other side of the backboard) to Green's 1 birthday cake dunk. I think it is clear by now that creativity is not one of Green's strong points.
As for Green's last dunk... Playing basketball in socks on a smooth hardwood floor is almost like playing with socks on ice. That's a running start, plant one foot, jump 3 feet vertically in the air, put the ball through their legs and dunk. A few of those judges and announcers would have fell on their asses without the ball ever seeing the rim in their former playing days.
With Dawkins and Malone skewing their vote to the fellow big man (Dawkins perfect dunk is to slam it hard and straight), Anderson and Barkley clearly having their favorites and disclaiming that Rudy Gay is probably the best but just not in a dunk contest, made it all a little less watchable and a little less entertaining for me.

Now I like where your going with the HORSE dunk contest idea. They could make it so you could call out other NBA guys to try to dunk on them. Like if you were going easy, you would call out like Shawn Bradley or something. And then try to dunk on him. Next guy would have to do the same. And if you wanted to really step it up you'd have to try to dunk on say Shaq or something. Would never happen because of injury possibility and what not. But while I've always enjoyed the dunk contest, nothing is better than an in-game cram in someones grill.
