Gerald's "Birthday Cake" Dunk

Post#1 » by Dogen » Sun Feb 17, 2008 3:24 am

Man, this is already the best dunk competition in years.

Dwight Howard does a phenomenal dunk, then our old binky Gerald blows out a candle on a cup cake sitting on the back of the rim! That was fun.

Gerald's dunk really is harder than it look.

He isn't focusing on the rim as he is trying to blow out the candle which isn't really close to his mouth at all.

And if his objective was to keep the cake on the rim he did that successfully too!

The Superman outfit was totally genius.....but that wasn't a dunk.

the superman outfit was cheesy and gay.

he stepped over his own tape by a foot and missed the dunk and threw it in. it wasnt even close to being a dunk!! why do they overlook that ? and who was the analyst who said it was the best dunk of all time ?

sorry, I think gerald should win just with the cake candle blow out. awsome replay and I am not saying that because he is an ex-cetic.

plus that dunk with the shoes off, hard! whats so great about grabbing a basketball off a mini hoop and dunking it ? nothing special if you ask me.

seems like a howard bandwagon if you ask me. I think the the best dunks were moons first dunk and gerlads candle blow out dunk. the replay on that gerald dunk was cool.

dwight howard needs to leave the cheese to the 80's.

Well the ball/on mini hoop is showing the peak of the jump. It's very difficult to get the ball at the peak of your jump and then start your windup for the windmill dunk.

It's also showing concentration because the ball isn't sitting infront of the rim as it's inside and more at an angle than your usual dunk.

It's extremely difficult dunk and creative to boot.

That dunk contest was awesome. I think Gerald got jobbed because Dwights a big star and everyone wanted him to win, but it was still entertaining.

The Birthday Cake dunk was one of the best things I've ever seen, and probably the hardest dunk of the whole contest.

Dwights only really nice dunk was the one that he ooped off the backboard to himself after the bounce. The Superman one wasn't a dunk as he threw the ball in from about three feet away, and he didn't jump from that far away. If Jamario Moon had done that dunk without the superman suit, it would have gotten a 40 and everyone would have knocked it.

In my opinion had Gerald not done the same dunk twice in the finals, he would have been in better shape. The first one was good, and the second one was even better, but together it was repetitive. I would have loved to see him pull out the Yao Ming cutout that he said he had last year and jump over that. The no socks dunk is really underrated though.

Dwight's dunk where he tipped it off the backboard was just unreal, SICK! But overall, I think Gerald should've won. The dunk without shoes was totally underrated.

You see, If gerald just did a somersault over a cannoli into a windmill, this thing would have been OVA!

dwights tip off the backboard and the one off the back of the backboard was cool.

but I dont get the superman non-dunk and why everyone went nuts over it. cause he wore a superman outfit he wins ?

ya, the only guy who should wear a superman outfit is christopher reeve and he is dead. howard looked like an idiot dressed like that.

oh ya, he missed the dunk too. :)

If Gerald put his elbow into the rim when McCants was sitting on the ladder, he would've won it.

When were props first used? The first time I recall was the year after Dee Brown's no-look dunk, somebody did one with an actual blindfold tied on by a teammate.

That was clearly the best dunk of the night IMO, although Moon's 1st and Dwight's 1st and 3rd were excellent.

But as an aside, Gerald's quite clearly the highest jumper this competition has had in a really long time. He consistently gets his forehead at least as high as the rim, where Rudy, Moon, and to a lesser extent Howard don't get the same height.

gerald no shoes really put his career in danger in my opinion, not only the landing would hurt his feet, if he has landed awkward, his feet is probably over
