Time to Rebuild?
Looking at how packed the West is, do you think it's time to rebuild? With teams like: Spurs, Lakers, Suns, New Orleans, Dallas and Denver all being championship contenders and T-Mac's consistent injuries, it seems like you guys will have a tough time getting to a NBA Final.
With Sacramento/Memphis/Minnesota/Seattle all rebuilding, would you want to join them? I would mainly because you already have the franchise big man Yao Ming, who they are severely starving for (Al Jefferson is a stretch but he's very good)
You can still get good value from T-Mac (late lotto?) and Battier (young player for a team who wants to go over the top?) and be ready to be a real contender by the time the Spurs/Suns get too old for contention, and when Dirk gets to old to really be a real effective player. A.I would also be older and no one knows if Melo will stay in Denver. New Orleans and Utah will be the two main problems, but surround Yao with a real good role players, you guys can be real good in a few years.
Thoughts?

Not this season, we are still in the thick of things and the west is literally wide open this season with essentially 4 games separating the first and the ninth seed.
And I seriously think we couldn't get that for McGrady at this point, his value is at an all time low. If we do not advance then I'd agree on rebuilding but considering how closely knitted the Western conference is, anything can happen and to say to rebuild after winning 8 games in a row is seriously the wrong time to start a thread like this...

Didn't Wade and Lebron sign a smaller, shorter contract than Melo? I haven't heard anything suggesting he might want out.

It's fairly clear that you haven't been keeping up with the league. The Rockets are the second hottest team in the NBA right now (8 game winning streak) and we've gone 18-4 since the New Year.
Also, we already have "real good role players" surrounding Yao.
We have our complementary scorers (T-Mac & Bonzi), defensive stoppers (Battier & Hayes), hustle players and rebounders (Scola & Landry), 3 pt shooters (Head, Novak, others), and ball distributors (Alston & Brooks). To top it off, we have a few decent guys who rarely get into the game but can contribute in limited minutes (Mutombo, Snyder, James), and Steve Francis may be healthy next season.
PHX and SAS are getting older, Dallas is on the decline, and no disrespect to DEN, POR, or GSW, but they are a player or two away from really competing for a title. The only teams in the west who we really have to worry about in the future are the Hornets, Jazz, and Lakers.
What's all this talk about rebuilding?

If T-Mac continues to do this year what he has done his whole career (be lazy, look half asleep, choke big leads away in the playoffs), then yes, theres no point to continue on the current plan of the T-Mac-Yao combo. if they dont get out of round 1 again this year, they never will. If T-Mac comes out in the playoffs and goes crazy a like he did a couple of games against dallas a few years ago, then we might want to stick with the plan. but i think we all know t-mac very well, we will be lucky if he plays 3-4 games hard in a 7 game series. in my opinion, my guess would be the T-Mac-Yao experiment is just about to end

Both guys are still in there late 20s, which is actually better age wise then where the Suns (Nash 34), and Sprus (Manu and Tim 30+) are at. I wouldn't really call it quits, its worked pretty well if you see there record when they play together. But its a matter of putting the right pieces around them, which I don't think the management has done to good of. I think the addition of Scola is great, and he should remain, same with Battier, but everything else needs to change.

McGrady wasn't the problem last year.
This game was. Four players scoring? Total? Blame it on him all you want, but it was the supporting cast not even bothering to show up that killed us. That and our inability to get a rebound at the end of game seven.
Christ, McGrady averaged 25, 6, 7, and almost a block and a steal a game. Game 5: 26 points, 16 rebounds. Game 7: 29 and 13. How much more do you want from the guy? He's only one guy on the floor. Give him a break. Maybe if the supporting cast and bench show up, and he sucks, then you can get on his case. But know what? The last two times we've made the playoffs, we've gone to seven games, mostly because he put us on his back. You can only carry a team so far before you collapse. He hasn't gotten enough from the team.
Let's see how this year plays out.
