I guess you need to ask yourself would you rather pay Chil, a player who dupliactes what you already have, good money to ride the pine or pay someone like the Hammer who brings a much needed dimension to your team and who's contract, while long, is at least front loaded?

How much would you expect to be able to extend Chil for?

I'm not expecting Josh Childress back with Atlanta for the long haul. I do believe Atlanta will get something for him, but he's replaceable, and his salary won't be work the X 2 it's going to cost. Atlanta will basically over the cap once they sign Josh Smith to a extension.

I just don't see Matt doing for a team what Josh Childress does. Coach Woodson doesn't even use the 3 point players he has. Salim Stoudamire doesn't see consist minutes or any for that matter. While Marvin Williams is looking like a pure shooter, he doesn't attempt 3 points, and yet he's the starting 3.

IMO, 3 point shooters can be found by the way of the draft, and that's the best way to go about it. I wish Atlanta made a couple moves for Kyle Korver, but it would have got into the way of filling the other holes on the team, and offering Josh Smith a extension.

Maybe Salim doesn't play because he's tiny and has no other skills. Hammer is a scorer who can do more than just hit 3s.

While he can do more, I just feel Josh is the better addition to have if your wanting someone to play both ends of the court, and that's why Atlanta would never move Josh for Matt.

Salim makes his money with his shot, no doubt, and he's not earning that as of late. The issue still exist due to Coach Woodson not providing Salim with minutes. Salim is far from being a great player, however he will drive, and I trust his shot with consist minutes.

Oh yea; I don't really think Atlanta would do Childress for Carroll. You don't trade a lottery pick to a division rival for an undrafted SG that has the type of contract you hope you to resign your own guy to.

ATL still needs another 3 pt shooter, but maybe since Lue/Johnson were just traded Salim gets to play when Bibby is off of the court in a backcourt with Chill or Joe Cool so his size and skills aren't as much of a negative?
