There's a list of NBA players who could be used in sign and trades.

They mentioned during the all-star game that Keith Van Horn could make up to $4 million being used in a sign and trade to NJ.

That would mean he'd be signed to a $12 million salary (30 of 90 games remaining would be $4 million for KVH)...

For the nba to allow this they'd probably want KVH to actually go to NJ and suit up.

We could use Dale Davis and sign him to a $6 million one year contract (he would make about $2 million for this).

This would allow us to have much more flexibility in trades.

It would give us $13+ million in expirings to offer.

Here's an example.

Detroit trades:
Dale Davis ($6.0 million S&T)
Primo Brezec ($2.75 million expiring)
Walter Hermann ($1.95 million expiring)
Ronald Muarry ($1.89 million expiring)
Jason Maxiell ($1.04 million)
$3 million cash
08 unprotected 1st round pick

LA Clippers trade:
Elton Brand ($15.34 million)
Paul Davis ($0.69 million)

Pistons trade $13.63 million
Clippers trade $16.03 million

$13.13 x 125% = $16.41

Since salaries are within 125% of each other this trade would be accepted.

Three major problems here: 1st DD is retired, second would be would he come back at his age. Third, why do we need him to come back, didn't we just say no to bringing back CWebb for the same reason.

I think you totally missed the point there nasty.

But there is a problem - we'd have to be willing to take back salary and that isn't likely to happen.

Yes if we did this we'd be paying the luxury tax.

That's the biggest reason it won't happen.

But I think it is an option if Dumars thought he could get another player who could impact us like Sheed has with all those expirings.

I'd hope Davidson would pay the tax if it came down to it.

We could have given up all those expirings, Max, and 2 future firsts for Gasol.

Unfortunately you are. TE's can be split, but not combined.

I believe he's retired, I also think the only possible reason why this would happen is if Joe Dumars does agree to a trade and has to sign and trade someone or he won't even bother because there's not a whole lot of time left before the trade deadline.

I just can't see DD coming back to be traded. Unless of course he'd be going to a contender, which I can't see Joe D doing.

$2 million to report to a city, maybe sit on the bench in a suit for a few games. All for about 2 months.

I think that would be hard for him to turn down.

He signed here in Detroit a couple of years ago to win a championship, while turning down slightly more lucrative deals. It's just hard to imagine him, at his age, coming back into the league simply to be dealt to a lottery bound team. I could be wrong of course, but it just seems far more likely for him to sign here for the vets minimum to try to contend for one last ship. Not sit at an end of a bench in Seattle or Memphis for a couple of months.

Getting paid $2M for doing nothing - yeah I think he'd lower himself to that. Hell I don't even know if he has to report. Just sign the contract with Detroit and then sign the buyout papers with his new team and go back to what he was doing.

I'm talking about the likelihood of him being involved in a sign and trade with us. Van Horn is the only player I can remember involved in such a situation and that trade went down not an hour ago. I just wouldn't put my money on DD being involved in sign and trade. It's not a bad idea, just feels highly unlikely.

Good point, I completely forgot about that trade. I wonder how many threads their are per forum involving signing and trading recent players. :lol:
