Meh. A lateral move really. You'd have to throw in a pick to make it worth our while to give you West for a player who doesn't fit our scheme at all.

something tells me Presti wouldn't touch J.R. Smith, along with most GM's.

I don't know where you're getting the J.R. part from.....nothing was ever said about who'd be leaving on Denver's part(and never would be until it actually happens). J.R. would make the most sense for Denver personal wise and salary wise.....but that is still all speculation.

I'm not really a fan of it and the only way i would touch it, is if there's something else(1st round pick) coming our way, cause Smith could just be a half year rental(he's an UFA this summer), while the Sonics could be able to do a sign & trade with West(he's a RFA this summer), netting them something else.

So i could see something like this:

West, 2nd round pick(via Denver Nuggets)

for

Smith, 1st round pick

I'd definitely do Det's trade, that would be a steal.

Both are RFA's

My bad. ;)

Still, i don't really see a need for Smith on the Sonics and would only do it, if there's a sweetener(a 2nd rounder wouldn't be enough) coming our way as well.

J.R. Smith reminds me of a slightly better Gerald Green.

They both can jump out of the gym and are decent at hitting the 3 ball but that's where their basketball skill ends. IMO.

Well if yous see JR as worthless to the Sonics, than it would more likely be Wafer/Diawara, especially if you want a 1st round thrown in.

I wouldn't mind a Wafer/Diawara, 1st round pick for West deal.

Ric Bucher just said on ESPN radio that that second deal (von/khouba) is close to going down....with seattle sending back a 2nd round pick.

the thing i don't understand is just how many 1st round picks do we need? Unless we plan on packaging some of these picks and/or trading them for future picks, I just don't see the point. If I'm Seattle I ask for a pick a few years from now when Denver likely won't be as successful....

I really hope that our(DEN) 1st round pick is lotto protected(if it actually goes down).....you wouldn't think it'd be a big worry given that we're 12 games over .500 at the break, but the west is just that ridiculous. A pick in the 20s plus Von and Yak is pretty fair for West, IMO......but a top 14 pick would be a little too much.

First round picks are worth $3m or can be used to capture the rights to foreign players. Even late first rounders have value.

So, if it goes down, it's going to be like this?

West, 2nd round pick

for

Diawara, Wafer, 1st round pick

If so, i really hope it's not our own 2nd round pick.

I really hope its Denver's 2nd

and having an extra 1st would be perfect because we could most likely package that later two and move up for a higher quality player or even package with 2nds

I think it's a pretty bad deal. West is worth more than that

Meh. 7 PPG on sub .400 shooting doesn't do it for me. Although there are other factors as well, such as injury and rotational changes, his stats just aren't that great when it comes down to it. I like the deal.

At first glance I didn't like the trade but imagine if Denver missed the playoffs. That'd add another first round lotto pick for us. Here's to hoping Denver collapses
