I could see both Artest and Miller being moved in the next few days.
But its still unlikely that they would get all expirings back.

Artest is playing some of his best ball as a King, and Reggie Theus has been extravagant in his praise of Ron. Also, now that the Kings might be interested in keeping him, it seems as if he's changing his tune about a trade in hoping to get a new contract. The Kings are weak at the 3 and 4 and Brad Miller is aging at the 5. Kevin Martin is the one blue chip young player they have, with Douby and Garcia not yet starter quality.
Udrih is one young player most Kings fans seem to view as a keeper. I don't think they are going to renounce Artest, Udrih and Justin Williams- getting nothing for them except draft picks - to try to sign Jose for a sum we would match.

Yep. I would expect Petrie to be quite active, but in search of talent rather than cap space.
2010 is their cap horizon, really...if the Kings can amass some talent and remain bad until then, they will have massive amounts of cap relief/talent to offer at that point.

6'9" (w/o shoes) isn't the important stat...it's his weight (245) and wingspan (7'4") that make him an effective center. He's the same height as Zo.

Assuming a cap of $58 million, they would have to dump Artest and Miller for expiring contracts and picks, which is do-able, at least the expiring part, to get a maximum of $14 million in cap space. Miami might take either, and has the expirings and apparently wants a fast turnaround. Miami could do either Artest or Miller for expirings. However, having lost Bibby for little, losing Artest and Miller for nothing would make them the least talented team in the league, perhaps even worse off that Minnesota which has more draft picks and young players.
-to enter free agency with $14 million, their own draft choice could not get better than it is right now (but the Kings could sink deeper without their big 3). If they won a top 3 pick, knock $1 million off the available cap space.
-they would have to renounce Udrih, who is unrestricted and who fans really think has nice upside in a Jose kind of way (he's 25)
-If they got draft picks in trades, they would have to be for 2009 or later to avoid reducing cap space
-they could not sign Justin Williams, a young fan favorite with upside
-they would have $14 million to sign five players, which means if they concentrated on one major free agent, they would have maybe $4 million to round out their roster. Given the restricted free agents available, if one was to go in that direction, would you target Jose, given that Udrih might turn out to be a poor man's Jose for a lot less money, or do you go after a guy like Okafor, or Josh Smith who can bolster a truly lame and pathetic front court. Logically, Udrih is a low risk whom they could sign for modest money ($4 million?) while taking a run at a frontcourt player. It just doesn't seem like Jose would be the best way for SAC to attack multiple problems, some more glaring than their PG situation.
-The rumor is that if Artest is traded to Denver, the Kings want Linas Kleiza, and that would knock another $1.8 million off next year's cap space.
-The question I have is whether Miami would take Miller and Kenny Thomas for JWill and RickyD, both expiring. Miller is 32 and a declining talent, and with two more years on his contract he might become an albatross - Thomas already is. This is the one to watch. Is Miller, with Marion and Wade, enough for Miami or does Riley decide it just makes them middle of the pack for a year and then they fall back into the abyss. Marion has the juice for 3-4 more good years, but not Miller IMO.

True but as dagger mentioned, it potentially brings Sacramento into the equation if they elect not to retain Beno Udrih. In all likelihood they probably will but you have to assume they'll throw an offer at him.
On a side note, if the Jason Kidd deal goes through, would we be able to trade for DeSagana Diop from New Jersey or would immediate restrictions apply? I'd love to get him here for Juan Dixon possibly.

Fairly certain that it would be able to be done if it's Diop alone. He can't be packages with any other players though.
It's definately something I'd look into, but they'd need some incentive along with Dixon to get it done from NJ's point of view.
