OT: NBA evolving to WWE?

Post#1 » by Taiyab_K » Sun Feb 17, 2008 7:47 pm

With the emergence of the Youtube videos (a la Bosh All-Star Campaign, Blane Harrington, Jamario's ploy, Rudy Gay's Plea)...it reminds me of the how the WWE tries to create hype for it's events. E.g creating story-lines, ploys, etc.

Agreed?

not agreed.

the stuff thats going on in the NBA is either individual or has something to do with the All-Star game. the WWE is ALL about storylines and fake **** and is nothing like the NBA.

Well the video of Jamario Moon was fake, it was just to create buzz.
My name is Taiyab, and I realize there is an intra-team conflict at the Point Guard spot.

Yes, Blane Harrington is obviously a lead-in to Bosh feuding with Alex English.

Every business tries to create hype for its product. In this sense, Pampers reminds me of WWE, and so does Habitat for Humanity.

yes but it was for one side event (the All-star game).

its not like they do that sort of stuff throughout the year or for every game.

the WWE is ALL about storylines throughout the year.

This makes no sense. The NBA is turning into the WWE because they are making more of an effort to hype their product?

Every company out there tries to hype their product. Is the NBA turning into Microsoft, Playstation, Coca-Cola, and Samsung too?

Horrible comparison. First of all, the NBA is real, the WWE is not. Secondly, Hyping your product does not mean you're similar to WWE, it means you have marketing savvy. Thirdly, they were hyping ONE singular event, not 82 games.

Because the NBA told them to post videos on youtube? No, there's no comparison. The WWE is fake, as in, not a real competition. It's impossible for the NBA to be fake because it's made up of individual franchises. And just for all you conspiracy theorists, it's also illegal for the NBA to pass itself off as a sport while being rigged. Why do you think the WWE calls itself "sports entertainment" so they won't get fined.

yeah that would be cool if the smitch came outta nowhere and hit Horford in the back of the head with a steel chair while chuck yells out BAH GAWD SMITCH with the vicious shot to the back of the head of horford at the ATL game.

I think it is a valid comparison taking the All Star crapola into account. I think the camparison ends there though. Still, I am not so sure the NBA is doing itself any favours when it sets up scenarios where Hall of Fame players get booed.

Except the one thing is that the WWE is fixed. Unless the David Stern secretly hired a fan to throw a cup of beer at Artest to create the Malice at the Palace. That brought huge hype. Everyone was talking about it afterwards.

i dont think NBA is purposely doing that
but i think WWE has better ratings than a NBA game of the week
so it wouldnt hurt lol
