New Deal to Get Kidd (from ESPN)
Apparently, the deal is now imminent again, and this version includes KVH and Hassell instead of George and Stack.
From a money standpoint, this hurts the Mavs more, IMO, than the previous deal, since we can't rid ourselves of Stack's contract. But it's not a huge difference to me.
I like this version better, though, because I think George was a real catalyst for us last year. And I really liked the way he defended Nash a few days ago. If he's healthy, and in the right frame of mind, he could be a very good, usable piece for us...moreso than Hassell's been.
Anyway, no huge news in this deal, but it does seem "back on" and "imminent" again.

I'm disappointed we don't get Wright in this version of the deal, and that we lose Van Horn's potential salary to use as a trade chip somewhere else. However, I'm glad this got done finally. This trade needed to happen after all that has been said.
With that said, what do you think the starting lineup is? Do we put in Terry at the 2 now, or let him come off the bench?
Kidd-Terry-Howard-Dirk-Damp or Kidd-Jones-Howard-Dirk-Damp
Knowing Avery I bet we see lineup #2.

The Wright deal may still be on. It's not mentioned on ESPN, but I'm not sure it was highly publicized in the original deal, either. It may still get done.

I say leave him on the bench to start the game. I don't think his role will really change too much.
Bass, on the other hand, will play more C, and I think Devean George will play more PF, with Dirk at C. Depending on the opponents, these matchups are just as favorable (or moreso) than with Diop at C.

Kidd/Barea
Terry/Stackhouse/Jones
Howard/George
Dirk/Bass/Howard
Dampier/Allen/Fazekas
We look extremely thin up front obviously now. I think we need to make a move for a backup center somehow, but I don't think we have the pieces to get anything done (I don't even think there is a big man to trade for anyway). However, I don't know much about Malik Allen. Maybe he can contribute?

He's not all that, but Justin Williams was released from Sacramento to do the Bibby deal. I'd cut malik Allen to sign Justin Williams. But I still hope there are better options out there.dashthemavfan wrote:Kidd/Barea

Who know, maybe fazekas surprises us.

Against most teams these matchups will be fine, but when we get to the playoffs we will get exploited using them. Especially if Damp gets into foul trouble early in any of our playoff games.

I just hope the deal gets done. I want us to keep George and I would love for us to acquire Wright. I was excited about him being involved with the first trade and I would be a bit disappointed if he didn't get included the second time around.

Quite possibly.
There are some quality Cs available out there. Nobody really exciting, but I'm sure some of the non-contenders would let guys like Nazr Mohammed (CHA) or Mikki Moore (SAC) go. Again, nothing to get excited about, but these guys are serviceable.
How would we get them (or anyone)? Not sure...a cheap player and $3M? A 3-way deal involving JET? Who knows.

Hassell has been a disappointment and his money was bad, so I'm fine with sending him instead of George. Kinda happy about it actually.
As to the worry about Devin going, I'm not going to shed too many tears. He was pretty good. Certainly not geat, and not really very good, but pretty good ... most of the time.
With that in mind, I don't see any reason to feel like we gave up an elite player. He was the third or fourth best player on a team with only one real star. I don't see how anyone can get mad when you try to shake up a team destined for failure if the only price is your 3rd or 4th best guy.
Personally, like many, I'm more upset by the Diop gap than I am by Harris.

Problem is, who can we trade to get them? It would be impossible to match salaries unless Stack or Terry is on the move.
