Question for Bogut & or Yi fans...

Post#1 » by Max Green » Mon Feb 18, 2008 2:09 am

Quick story, I'm a huge Randy Moss fan, when Moss was traded to Oakland a few years ago I became a Raiders fan even though I could care less about them before he got there and once they traded him I stopped caring about and following the Raiders because they were never my team in the first place.

My question for the Bogut & Yi fans who just started following the Bucks when your guy arrived here, Are you really Bucks fans or are you just Yi/Bogut fans who like the Bucks because thats the team that they play for??? Also if your guy Bogut or Yi was traded would you still follow the Bucks and care about the franchise or would you just hop on the next teams bandwagon that those two are traded to??

I started off as just a Bogut fan, if he was traded I would've just migrated to whatever team he went to. After following virtually every game for 3 seasons though I've grown really attached to the team, and this forum for that matter. If Bogut was traded personally I'd just make a "Bogut Watch" thread here rather than going off and posting elsewhere, I have too much interest in the future of the Bucks and this forum is by far one of the best/most active of all the RealGM teams.

I can't imagine why people in Australia and China would be Bucks fans if their guy went to another team.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Right now I can't imagine why people in Wisconsin would be Bucks fans. And before anybody says it I'm fully aware that I am a Bucks fan living in Wisconsin. :P

After nearly 3 Seasons I cannot just turn off .

I will for sure follow up Bucks Games even if Bogut leaves the team, one reason is also that I would like to see when the management is going to wake up and do the right thing.

Some Bucks players are individually very good, but as a team players they are disaster

Still hope for Bucks and also Bogut staying with Bucks and hopefully staying healthy after the hip injury( what a loyal player - sick and playing )
When you put on that jersey, the name on the front is more important then the name on the back.

This team depresses me no **** end. So yeah I'm pretty attached. Would you, as one of the last remaining members of the Redd fan club leave the Bucks with him?

As you can see from my join date I was a Bucks fan long before Bogut (been a Bucks fan for about 4-5 years) and will unfortunately be one forever. I would follow Bogut closely still if he left, but Bucks come first. It is a damn shame they suck so much.

The NBA is more about marketing and finance than it is basketball. It becomes more about the player than the team every day. They market superstars rather than great teams.

Players play for contracts rather than to win. For a fan of true basketball this is frustrating. The closest we have left is college.

Fans of teams are a dying breed, and it's not just because of players like Bogut and Yi. If Lebron left Cleveland do you think the Lebron fans would still follow the Cavs? How many KG fans still follow the Twolves?

I feel for the Bucks and where they stand as a franchise. I want the Bucks to win while Bogut is there, but will not look back once he is gone.

What made you become a Bucks fan?

I'm just curious because we seem to have several Aussie Bucks fans on this forum that were fans long before Bogut. It really is a very interesting thing to me.

believe it or not, there was a time before bogut when there were no aussies playing in the league. we had to follow some team because we like basketball so much. i'm sure the same goes for the chinese pre-yao.

So how the f did you land on the Bucks? It certainly couldn't have been because of the colors...

Well said. Theres one courier driver who does regular delivery to my work place is a HUGE Bball fan, hes Aussie and he always wear his Tmac Orlando magic throwbacks.

Back to the topic. Ive been hanging around for 4 months or so...I consider myself a casual Bucks fan now.We know that last year Bucks didnt have a good record, so win or lose Im not that concerned. What I hope to see is Bucks is on the right track. January is the month that I was excited about this franchise, put the record aside, they were playing good but simple inside/outside bball --- Bogut showed what hes capable of, and yes, I do believe that this franchise should be built around him. Then comes Feb, what a disaster. All of a sudden the franchise started sinking fast: lockerroom issues, players were sluggish out on the court...etc. For example, when Yi was injured heaps of people on Hoopschina.com were actually happy about it, they were saying that CV will finally get some quality playing time and Yi will get some well-deserved rest. That thread alone had over 800 posts --- Chinese fans were keeping an eye on the Bucks, or should say, they were on their way to be a Bucks fan. But you know what, after the lockerroom story, the posts in that forum gone all the way down to Nil. One guy translated europa and sigra's posts but fans seemed lost interests in discussing anymore.
All these dramas simply stops people loving the team, it doesnt matter you are Chinese or Australians, real Bucks fans or Bogut/Yi fans, You just cant love a team that cant pull it together and compete.

Just my 2 cents. Im still trying my best to be a Bucks fan.

Aussies are generally fans of smaller underdog teams. Plus Milwaukee seems to be a relaxed beer guzzling kinda place so its a bit like home. Just a guess as I'm one of the Aussies who jumped on the Bogut bandwagon.

you are probably not going to see the management doing the right thing in your life time, or in kohl's life time

Well to answer everyone's question, someone above kinda did, I was a big bball fan and needed a team to support. I hate sheep who follow everyone else and just go for LA or NY coz its the thing to do, so I looked for a struggling team who is in a small market and needed all the support it could get. I also wanted an East Coast team. That's basically it, and now over the last few years I love the Bucks and am on here reading stuff and watching games every single day of the week.

For the Aussies here i also did the same thing when picking an AFL team and i chose the Bulldogs. I am a member and am also very pasionate about them. Haha I am very used to losing sports teams.... For the Americans reading this, the Bulldogs have not won a premiership (championship) in a 16 team comp since 1954. And it only used to be like an 8 team comp...

Me I am a Bucks fan first and then Bogut joined, when I first started watching the NBA we got one game plus highlights on the ABC with this host who moved from the states about 40 years ago, he was a BIG knicks fan and he always picked on the Bucks. So cause I hated him I began to like the Bucks.
