All-Star Weekend

As we all know. This weekend's All Star games begin with tonight with the rookie/sophomore game held in New Orleans. Grizzlies own Mike Conley, Juan Carlos Navarro(Rookies), and Rudy Gay(Sophomore) will represent the Grizzlies in tonight's matchup. Rudy Gay will represent the Grizzlies in Saturday's Slam Dunk contest against Gerald Green(Minnesota, 2007 Champ), Dwight Howard(Magic), and Jamario Moon(Raptors). Good luck to Rudy, MC11, and JCN during their time at the All Star Games.

Sophomores beat the Rookies 136-109. Rudy Gay hit 22pts on 9 of 12 shooting in the win for the sophomores.

Good luck for rudy tonite.

Green looks so confidence and if jamario can dunk from where we watched in the video...i dont trust howard.

How can affect that he is playing for the grizzs? i guess it doesnt really matters, i hope!

All we can say is best of luck to Rudy in the slam dunk contest and that he's able to overtake Gerald Green.

Rudy's a great dunker, but he isn't into gimmicks and costumes, and the dunk competition seems to be sliding farther and farther into that kind of thing. It's a shame, imo.
I did like Dwight's left-hand-right-hand backboard-then-dunk --- a variation on the sticker dunk of last year.

D-12 did that "Superman" on em. That was a thriller was well deserving of him to win it this year after getting robbed of the contest from last year's All Star Slam Dunk Contest. Rudy did better on his second dunk than his first dunk try. It was a live and learn experience for Rudy. So if he's invited to next year's dunk contest. He should be able to add more to his bag of tricks. Good try Rudy. Better luck next year.

The only game Gay has is dunking the ball, and he couldn't even make it past the first round.

I don't know about that, MH. While I would never say that "rudy is a future hall of famer" or "rudy will be a perennial allstar" or any other grandiose statements (and he's no great shakes as a defender at the moment either....), he's got a pretty nice 3-pt stroke and has shown a reasonable ability to score in the lane.

I'm sure you'll rain all over me for this statement, tell me I obviously know nothing about basketball and have never watched a game, my logic in arriving at these thoughts is flawed, etc., etc...

We all know that you HATED the trade when it was made, HATE it now, and will HATE it forever. Sure, the rebuilding should have STARTED with trading Pau, not had such a move kinda pasted onto it....but Shane is gone, get over it.

Each one of us is entitled to our individual opinion.
I don't mind if someone disagrees, but here's mine:
Rudy is a solid 3-point shooter, a good mid-range shooter, a great jump shooter, and he moves well with or without the ball.
His dribbling ability is wonderful for someone his height.
He can create his own shot, unlike many.
And he is a great dunker.
At the dunk competition, he looked good, and he treated it as if it were a dunk competition instead of a fun fair requiring props, costumes and gimmicks.
(Personally, I prefer his gimmick-free approach to the competition.)
Rudy is a young guy --- he's very good now and and as he continues to mature and develop in this league, his game will mature and develop as well. I believe he will improve and develop in the area of defence, and will become a well-rounded player. I look forward to watching him grow and develop, and to supporting him along the way.
I came to this board to follow Rudy Gay's career and applaud him along the way.
There are several players in the league I don't think too highly of, though, and I fully respect the right we each have to our own, often vastly differing, opinions.

i'm always amused when people (you and jefe especially) try to anticipate a response from me and presume to know what i would say on any given matter or believe there is some underlying sinister motive behind any statement i make. they are, without fail, wrong. maybe someday someone will actually ask a question instead of making up an answer and then attacking it.

trust me, I don't put enough stock in anything you say to assign the word "sinister" to your utterances. More like "petulant".

Had I not issued such a disclaimer as I did...let's just say that I had said...

sounds like a subjective statement masquerading (in saran wrap, I might add) as an "objective" statement of Rudy's limitations.

In addition, the "straw man" Logic 101 thing gets old. I may have to start using some red herrings, slippery slopes, syllogisms, and some other garbage, just to get some other cliches some work around here. They're all starvin' whilst the straw man is livin' at the buffet....

reveling in this whole little sandbox deal, and actually watching the allstar game...what a nice Sunday evening

... Still waiting to hear you explain that "the only game Gay has is dunking the ball" after hptmatthew and cinnamon offered contrary points.

Personal attacks on other posters and myself don't validate your statement; in fact, they only make it weaker IMO, because they show your sole purpose for being here is to be antagonistic - and not to discuss the Grizz.
