Why not Boston?

Here's a random question: Why doesn't Boston ever host the All-Star game?

I just read that next year, Phoenix will host the game, the first time since 1995 they've had it. Well what the hell, when is the last time Boston had it? Or New York for that matter? What is the logic behind where the game gets played, and why does Phoenix get it twice in 15 years?

I guess I don't really care that much - but is there some reason I'm missing here?

Didn't we have it the last year of the old Garden (I wasn't living in Boston at the time - so I'm not sure... but I think that is right...)

New York had it for Kobe's 1st All-Star game they said tonight and tonight was his 10th All-Star game...so you do the math.

Who wants to come party in snow, slush, and 12 degree weather? We had the NHL All-Star game when I was a kid, but I never remember the NBA.

Boston hosted a lot in the early stages. I would love an All-star full of clovers. I hope boston gets to host it soon.

Hmm, didn't remember NY. Still seems like it's been a while for Boston.

Boston has hosted it 4 times, 4 out of the first 14 games. We haven't hosted it since 1964.

They definitely have been about warmer cities for a while now.

I have always wondered this, especially since some cities have hosted it twice in the 20 odd years I've been a NBA and Celtics fan.

This was in a story on the Herald website:

yeah i'd love it but bein a boston native there is a problem with the space. the allstar game needs to have a lot of space to do the many events it has and the fleetcenter is so far to the "left" that the players would need shuttles to go from even to event. If they can somehow create a place like (hynes) in which there can be multiple events going on with hotels close by etc, than it would be great. But until than Boston doesnt have the same attraction as say NY. In NY you can walk up and down the streets with the big bright lights etc. Bostons downtown is not even in the same sentence as NY's. But our ownership seems like they really want it there so I ma sure they will try there hardest to get the space to do it

They had it in Denver a few years ago, and Denver isn't by any means the warmest place out there.

No, but it is a winter resort area that actually gives a **** about bringing in something like the NBA All Star game as opposed to Boston were anything besides what is common place is a giant pain in the ass. Boston runs at almost full capacity all the time it doesn't need somebody else's circus to fill the streets.

Whenever stuff like this comes up I remember the playoff game against the Pistons on Mother's Day. It was friggin pooring rain out and they opened the stupid ass Big Dig suspension bridge for foot traffic. It was a complete disaster we had to park dowtown and ended up missing most of the 1st half. It is just a headache that isn't what the city or the NBA needs.

It's a lot of politics involved in it to tell the truth. Jimmy103 hit the last half of in his post(weather). The other part is the commerce part of it like hotel accommodation's, travel to and from the different events.

When we had it in LA in 04, a lot of had to do with Staples being in the downtown area of LA. Our convention center and arena are side by side, so most people were able to walk from the NBA Jam Session to the arena for the other activities.

Also one little known fact is the team itself has to put in a bid to host the event, the league then takes into account weather your city can withstand the 5 days of people, traffic and other factors such as the facility's to house the events.

I've never been to Boston before but it looks like a beautiful city definitely a historic one that I'd like to see one day.
