Could Karl Malone play C?
Last night, me and my friend were comparing Tim Duncan and Karl Malone. We all know that TD can play C and PF equally well, but how was Mailman at C? Did he ever play it? IIRC, he hardly had to: he had guys like Eaton, Spencer, Carr or Ostertag who did it for him. Can someone answer this question? Thanks!

Yeah, and David Robinson was NOTHING compared to those guys you mentioned. That list you gave was far from impressive, and was quite useless i your argument. Malone was the center, on offense anyway, almost always being guarded by the other teams best big. He never had a decent threat alongside him at the C.

Thanks for clearing this up, that was all I needed to know.
(Also you can see how much *cough* I used to watch the Jazz in the 1990s)

In Malone's prime (1995-2000), he routinely guarded the best centers in the league and got the better of them. He guarded everyone from Shaq, to Hakeen the Dream, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, everyone who stood in the Jazz' way.
He didnt guard them all game long, but he would shut them down for stretches. People dont realize its Malone's defense, not his offense alone, that made him a great one.

Well, as one could see during the AS weekend, Malone looked to be in great condition, so why don't the Jazz call his way. He'd be no worse than Collins, and as you guys pointed out, he can play C, he knows our offense better than Collins, and what Collins offers on D, Malone can do at whatever age he's in.
Right now we play just a 3 man big rotation, so Malone wouldn't even play that much. The thing is when he would check in, it'd SUCH A BOOST for our team and crowd... WOW, just imagine... Vet leadership at it's finest.
...well, back to reality and Collins as our main and *gulp* only backup at C.

^Why would the Mailman sacrifice the dignity of his career and legacy to sit on the Jazz bench and play backup minutes? He made legitimate title runs basically his entire career, and he can now do what he wants in life apart from basketball.
Remember what Jordan's second comeback did to his legacy? He will always have his greatness followed by that brief period where he traded several Wizards players to the Pistons (the same core that went on to win the title), and drafted Kwame Brown. By the time MJ hung-em up again in Washington, the Wizards fired him from their front office. Terrible way to go out.

Yeah, but Malone would also be in a title contender (especially with him) so he would be in a position to win it all again, and... with HIS TEAM. Better than the way he did go out (injured while riding Shaq and Kobe's tail for a ring, and LOST).
I would be something like if Jordan would have returned to a good up and coming Bulls team with title options that needed what he could offer them. If Malone does that, it would BETTER his legacy especially from that LA year he had.
Think about it... returning to HIS team, and actually helping us (there is no way he'd be worse than Collins, and his vet and moral boost to us would he huge) in our way to the top. That would put him CLEARLY on top, especially with the way others like the Dream, sir Charles and even Mike hung them up.

I don't think Malone even enjoys the game that much. He stayed away from the court during the off season IIRC.
But, he allready sacrificed his dignity to chase a title with the Lakers, so anything is possible.
I think his playing days are done though. Don't hold your breath waiting for the Mailman to deliver again.

"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

No, I know... I'm just saying, since the whole Malone at C thread... we ONLY *gulp* have Collins as our backup C... COLLINS. So, Malone did look preatty in shape at the AS activities... and the thought of him coming to us would be so great. I mean, we get vet leadership from one of our biggest franchise icons and a solid player (or at least better than Collins). His imact on our team both on and off the court would be so HUGE...
And as I said, we basically play a 3 man rotation with out bigs, with AK ocasionally around, so Karl's job wouldn't be much. Just a brief stint here and there.
Of course the chances of that happening go along with the chances of me becoming a millionaire, but how AWSOME would that be?!?!

After the Mailman lost his mom I think he realized that life is far more important then basketball, he spends a lot of time with his family now and obviously enjoys the little things like fishing and hunting more then having to answer a bunch of questions about what playing in this game is like compared to when he last played.

I think he'd have a nice future as a Wrastler.
And on a similar note, I wonder what Dwight Howard would be like as a pro volleyball player. Can you imagine?

Off topic, but how come Malone is never mentioned in the steroid conversation? It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out he was juicing.

Um, hello? Does that mean he is still juicing? Because he STILL has as much muscle as before and still looks to be in great shape. It is a known fact that Malone spends approx. 3 hours per day conditioning his body, not to mention he works in tough jobs like hauling gravel and logging and shiz....Malone is a a warrior, and I dont think he juiced. I'd be very suprised if he did. Most steroid users get fat-big and frumpy after they stop using and the slowly-reducing muscle mass cannot support the new body it has grown accostomed to....

Yeah, I don't know if I should even bother refuting this steroid theory. I guess I'll post this link and the accompanying picture:

I'm not saying Malone WAS juicing, just that it wouldn't surprise me if he was. I have no evidence one way or the other.
I must admit that I find it humorous that someone could say "your not a Jazz fan if you think Malone was juicing!", though. I imagine a lot of people in san Francisco said the same thing about Bonds.

I dont think he juiced, but I also think willys argument that you are not a jazz fan if you think he was is even more stupid. But this IS willy we are talking about here. He must believe if you didnt for cheer Malone while he was with the Lakers, youre not really a Jazz fan. At least his previous logic would say so. No single player transends the team, especially if you drink the Sloan kool-aid, right willy?
