No way we should include (2) 1st rd picks in any trade

Post#1 » by eyejayem » Sat Feb 16, 2008 6:49 pm

Just sitting back and thinking to myself, there is no way we should make a trade and include 2 first rd picks since it would limit our ability in the next 2 years.

The next two years we have ~30 mil coming off the books in both years. But if we want superstars teams are getting expirings and a pick or players. Since the general concensus is we dont have any attractive players we need a pick to make trades. So if we try to get a player and if he is not the sure thing we get stuck again. The trade we make after that will only be expirings and if they want a 1st rd pick it will be 2012 at earliest since you cant trade 1st rd picks in straight years. This will limit our ability.

We can trade our expirings and a pick, but right now it is tough unless we take on bad contracts. But if Hughes keeps playing the way he has his stock will rise again. Right now we are not in the right place and there are only a handful of players I would give up (2)1st rd picks for, and none of them are over 30. I think if we dont get a steal the closest we make a trade is draft night. But thats just me.

I'd gladly give up 2 first round picks for a stud like Curry or Crawford + D-Lee + Wilson Chandler (he's legit).

Max should be 1 pick in any trade made this year. If we have to include 2 picks in a deal, it shouldn't be til the summer.

As a note for the cba uneducated, we can trade the 2008 pick this season if we have to make a deal. Once the 08 draft has passed, we can trade the 09/11 ones if we have to.

You guys gotta think about winning now, so i say trade Lebron

jk give up those 1st round picks because waiting for them to develope isn't something Lebron would like.

We have $30 million coming off the books, but does anyone realize we're $21 million over the cap right now? In 2009-10 we'll have 5 or 6 players signed (depending of Varejao picks up his player option), which leaves us about $8M under the cap (or $14 without Varejao).

It doesn't seem like we'll be a major player in the FA game anytime soon. Anyway that said we have a lot of expiring contracts that are most valuable in a trade situation, but I think we should at least hold on to a few RD1 picks.

That's why the expirings will be so important this summer. Judicious use of them should allow us to get some decent players much like was done with the recent big name acquisions.

Since we're not going to be drafting high, our draft picks are less likely to be NBA-ready, trading our expiring contracts before they come off the books would be a better way towards improving quickly.
