Marcus' role on this team: Now and going Forward

Post#1 » by RJ 24 » Mon Feb 18, 2008 5:33 pm

Ok lets say the Kidd deal is complete and we have all the players that are involved and Dallas has all of their players. Marcus Williams was supposed to be the future PG of the NJ/BK Nets. Now with Harris, it looks like he will be the future. The FO loves Marcus, but what is his role on the team now? Will he only be the backup PG or will he see time at SG? If Wright is included in this deal as he was in the last one, I can't see Ager being our first backup SG. How about in the future? We we deal him for draft picks, or will he be included in another package?

Please comment because i really want to know.

Well he isnt really a great shooter so i dont see him playing SG. One of either 2 things will happen

1. He'll be the backup for Harris for a while
2. He'll be traded

His role will be sitting at the end of the bench or being used as trade bait for some GM who hasn't realized this kid's basketball IQ and defense is in the toilet!

I think M. Will has a confindence issue and I dont think frank helps.

M.Will can be good but he is never put in situations to show that this year. Last Year in limited minutes, M. Will played well with Boone. Pick and Roll plays worked everytime between them. This Year, Frank has played them together. Frank needs to let the young guys play. Call some plays but just pick and roll almost all the time. Between Boone and SWIll, M. Will should be avg. 6+ ast a game. now on the Defensive side, this is where the real issues are. He really needs to work on this. The only way is to play more. Frank doesnt need to worry too much about this especially now we have SWILL and Swift. These guys can cover his back, but he needs to improve. Frank also needs to stop yanking the young guys when they make mistakes. LET THEM PLAY!!!!!

I agree but his conditioning at this point is probably an issue because of the injury. He was tearing up the summer league and he was probbaly on pace for a good year. He will need another summer to blossom again.

It ain't confidence issues.
This pos jacks up shots left and right instead of trying to create for others.
Why must he jack up so many 3's when he can barely hit them.

^^Deron averaged 11 and 5 his first year mainly coming off of the bench... He doesn't have an attitude problem and he's at least a capable defender...

Marcus Williams has a ton of confidence.........enough confidence to dribble out the shot clock, refuse to pass the ball to Vince Carter, jack up bad shots, and play defense like a matador.

Some of you might take offense to this, but Marcus is easily one of the stupidest players i've seen wear a Nets uniform, ever. The guy has regressed horribly, injury or not his decision making is terrible and he isn't making plays...last year imo he played a lot better. The only thing Marcus is good for at this point is keeping Devin Harris' seat warm or getting me a lap top on a 5 finger discount!!!

Back up! They might mix it up during the game and throw Harris at the 2 cuz he can shoot but Devin will be the starting pg cuz he's just better.

This is his big chance. It's all up to him to show he can run the team.

DA isn't a great playmaker, Harris isn't known for playmaking either so I think Marcus will get increased minutes and Harris will spend time at SG. If MW can be an NBA PG this will be his time to show it. No more Kidd standing in front of him.

He's got a lot to prove. Most serious of his many problems is his horrendous defense

Hopefully Marcus is traded for a young SG, because I don't see Marcus ever being a quality player right now. We really need to make it clear that Harris is THE PG, because that is where his future is. He needs the time to learn the position.

Maybe we can showcase him a lot this year and then package him with our pick, and the Dallas pick for OJ MAYO. Seriously though I think our objective heading into the draft is to snag Mayo. A backcourt of Harris and Mayo would be SICKKKKK

Yeah, picking Marcus over Renaldo Balkman worked out reallly well for us.

Good job Thorn!
