Guys...nobody is going to just GIVE us a starting caliber player for expirings and a later 1st rounder. Kaman? Iggy? C'mon now...

IF we make a move it'll likely be a little one. If Joe didn't see the need to make a big move over the Summer after our playoff implosion I see little reason to believe he'd feel the need to make one now.

Anyway, I wouldn't be at all surprised IF we do make a small move if there is one to make. But if there isn't a deal he likes he'll just stand pat - I don't think he feels like he HAS to do something. And remember Joe usually works pretty quietly - the deals that get done are the ones you never hear about. I could see him going out and landing somebody non of us really though of, or perhaps a name tossed out there casually and then after he actually does it we all sit there and go "hmm....that works quite nicely".

I'm trying to make a trade thats seems plausible. It may not get you excited, but it allows us at a very low risk (all players involved have expiring contracts) to potentially address two key areas of weakness. Dolaec isn't going to be getting any serious rotation minutes here in Detroit. But, he is definitely an upgrade defensively over Primo. The key to the deal is the acquisition of Green. He gives us another option at the 3 and lets Joe D look at three legit back ups to decide upon which receives an extension in the off-season.

I really like this deal. Mainly because I still feel Gerald Green can be a great player in this league if given the opportunity, and I'd prefer him over Jarvis Hayes at the backup-SF position. If he just works on his attitude and his defense, he'd be really good.

The Lakers gave up a bit more than that, and everybody agrees Memphis got raped. You can't expect that sort of value.

Memphis has been taking lessons from McHale and Isiah

Mike Miller would probably be the biggest name we would acquire and I do think we would have the assets to get him. But Iggy and Kamen would be tough without throwing in some combination of Stuckey, Max and Amir, all more valuable than our first round picks.

Boris Diaw $9.0
Mike Miller $8.4
Kurt Thomas $8.1
Ron Artest $7.4
Corey Maggette $7.0
Darko Milicic $6.5
Udonis Haslem $6.1
Shane Battier $5.9

This would be the guys I would look at the closest although I'm thinking more and more that we won't do a trade at all. Just roll with what we got and let our expirings expire and worry about new team members in the offseason.

Mike Miller is really the only semi-realistic option on that list that I'd be interested in.

I'd love to have Kurt, but I think the asking price may be a bit high. Artest & Maggette don't particularly interest me and I can't see Darko returning to Detroit. I don't think Miami is in any big rush to move Haslem either and if they did I think they'd want more than I'd be willing to give up. Same w/ Battier.

But Mike Miller...yeah, I could roll w/ that. I know he's paid a lot, but if he got start minutes at the 2/3 I'd be cool w/ that. It could potentially cut into Stuckeys minutes though and would definitely mean the end of Afflalo as any sort of rotation player so he might as well be included in the deal.

I think I'd still rather just get a cheap bigman.

Maybe, but probably not all that realistic. Either not likely to be shopped or too expensive as backups.

General lack of interest.

Blasphemy!!

WE GET:
SG Matt Carroll
PF Emeka Okafor
SF Adam Morrison

THEY GET:
PF Antonio McDyess
PG Lindsey Hunter (cap space, they probably cut him anyway)
PG/SG Flip Murray (cap space, but keep for the rest of this season)
SF Jarvis Hayes (cap space, but keep for the rest of this season)
PF Jason Maxiell
SG Arron Afflalo
Future 1st round pick

WHY FOR US:
We upgrade at PF (Emeka vs. Dice) and keep quality depth.

WHY FOR THEM:
1) They gain cap relief this offseason
2) They unload the two players with the worst contract situations on the team (Morrison and Carroll)
3) They gain much needed depth
4) They gain two young, promising players in Maxiell and Afflalo, plus a future 1st.
5) Okafor is a free agent after this season, and he could bolt to the highest bidder and/or to a team he could win with.

Explanation of #2 for Charlotte above. Morrison is the odd-man out at SF with Gerald Wallace signed long-term and their most recent draft selection of Dudley who is signed for longer and cheaper than Morrison. Carroll is also signed long-term but will never start for them with JRich there. We take him and Morrison off Charlotte's hands if it means we also get Okafor. We become:

pg - Billups / Stuckey / and probably Hunter after Char releases him
sg - Hamilton / Carroll
sf - Prince / Morrison / Hermann
pf - Okafor / Johnson / Hermann
c - Wallace / Brezec / Samb

My bet is if we trade for Okafor and win, he 100% stays here ala Sheed.

I like the idea of Okafor but Dice, Max and Hunter will help us a lot in this years playoffs. I guess Okafor would be better than eaither Dice or Max, just leaves us a little thin up front.

Detroit trades:
Walter Hermann
Jarvis Hayes
08 2nd rounder

Toronto trades:
Jamario Moon
Juan Dixon

Detroit gets Moon, a big athletic wing defender to help against Pierce or Lebron.

^Isnt Moon starting for them now? His value has gone up a lot, at least from Torontos perspective. Doubt they wanna downgrade the position
