Guys, this team isn't going to contend this season with our without Ron Artest. So making any move for him that mortgages the future would be a very bad move as he's almost certainly going to opt out of his contract this summer and become an unrestricted free-agent.

BC is trying to build a team that can contend at some point down the road and do so for many years, not just give the current team a slightly better chance of getting out of the first round in 2008. That's short-sighted thinking.

Not only would he just be a rental he's also an idiot. If Artest is so good then some one explain to me why he's done nothing in his entire career. If he's such a good defensive player then why has he never won defensive player of the year? He's never won a championship and besides that one season in Indiana he's never really been on a good team.

Artest is a cancer who only plays for the Rebuplic of Ron Artest and no one else, and let me tell you its a lonely rebuplic.

as a Kings fan... please take Artest.

as a Raptors fan... stay far far away.

Ron was great when he first landed in Sac-Town... but then all good things come to an end. He is a great ball player no doubt, but the bottom line is that we dont know which Ron is going to show up at the arena every night.

Not a chance. I am shocked that people are willing to take this guy and add him to our roster. Right now, we have one of the most cohesive, team-first rosters in the league. We have the foundation that you need to strive for competitive greatness.

Artest is the exact opposite of all that.

That is why he has been in the league for 9 years and only made it out of the first round once.

That is why he continues to waste away in Sacramento - don't you think that if he was all that, a contender would have picked him up by now?

They understand, as I understand, that if you want to build a franchise that is dedicated to achieving excellence as a team, you do not want Ron Artest anywhere near it.

Yeah, I'd shoot him.

Oh, you mean should we trade of him?

No.

For me I would trade for Artest if we could get him to agree to a contract extension before hand, him as a rental player is not very appealing because I don't think the raptors are championship caliber yet with him and if he opts out although we gain cap space we lose what ever assets we trade for him which probably will include a first round pick and Hump. I think this team has enough leadership in Bosh, Calderon, Anthony Parker, Rasho, Delfino, Darrick Marting, Sam Mitchell, and Bryan Colangelo that we would be able to motivate and contain a personality like Ron Artest but if he opts this years and we can't resign him than its a wasteful trade IMO. Get him to agree to a contract extension and I'm in.

do i want a ron artest type player? yes. do i want ron artest? no. what are taking the gamble for? unless we're pushing for the ship, it's not worth giving up some of our core pieces to get artest.

Not if we have to trade any of our core players, picks, or expiring contracts for next year... In other words, not possible....
