nope.

he has a bursa sac in his right elbow that always gets hit and needs to be drained occasionally. so he has padding there, and the sleeve to keep it in place. melo's the same on his left arm. not sure whats up with kobe/bron.

I wasn't really sure why AI started wearing his, mostly because he wasn't in Denver at that time. But I never really noticed any padding on his sleeve.






I know Melo started wearing his for pretty much that same reason though....I think it was around march of 2005. But the padding in his is much more noticeable....

Stern also banned the compresssion pants last year after Lebron wore them like 6 games straight and Wade wore them before his injury. But the improve circulation of Blood to muscles which increase oxygen to the muscles cutting down on swelling and fatigue. Stern mus have felt pretty bad for those players still getting dunked on hard in the 4th quarter.

Kobe was the one who started wearing those compression pants then everyone(Redd, Lebron, Wade, Vince in particular) started to copy him..

I've worn one off and on for about 5 years when I play volleyball--really helps the elbow bounce back when you have to play on consecutive nights or sit for awhile and then have to get back swinging.

Those things smell absolutely freaking terrible after you wear them too--they get soaked and it's just funky. You have to hand wash them and air dry them, so it never really gets the funk out either.

I think Kobe was the first one who wore them in a different color other than black or white, but he wasn't the first one to actually wear them.

I liked the leggings fad that caught on. That was pretty funny. Never, outside of professional sports, is it alright for a man to wear tights and manage to not only look cooler, but smoother and more manly too.

I think that most NBA fans have some serious manlove for the players.

Myself not excluded.

As for the arm sleeves? I always assumed it was to keep the muscles warm. If you've ever worn one, especially if its tight, but not so tight as to cut circulation, your muscles take longer to cool and therefore tire / cramp (actually, I don't know if NBA players cramp. They have such good body circulation anyways it seems practically impossible, nothing a banana wouldn't fix.)

Vince Carter was the first I've seen with compression shorts back in the 2004-2005 season where he use to wear a calf sleeve...then he injured his knee so when he came back he wore a full sleee (tights), though it was only on one leg.

I know it's been talked about, but I too find it funny how many people spelled the word "wear" incorrectly. But I guess it's kind of petty to be a quick judge of someone. How does the saying go? You can't judge a man until you walk a mile in his choose.

I don't like the arm sleeves either. If I played in the nba, I'd wear a calf sleeve on my left calf. I wouldn't wear any other sleeves, bands, straps, or pads unless I was recovering from an injury.

look what I found:

mj wore the tights before stackhouse -- read "when nothing else matters" which describes the downfall of jordan in d.c., specifically that he was reduced to wearing tights (on one leg, due to his bad knee). little did the author of the book know that down the line this desperate move would ultimately lead to a trend that would be followed by kobe, lebron, iverson, vince, etc.
