Could Jose Juan Barea be available if Kidd trade...
...Goes through?
I'm thinking he can be Boston's answer to Nate Robinson in a perhaps unalike way if their skills differ that much. What I mean by that is he's an energy guy off the bench like Robinson is too. A spark. They both play bigger than their heights.
Dallas would feature combo guard Terry, Jose Juan Barea and Kidd assuming a trade happens. I don't want to presume that Jose Juan Barea will become expendable after a Kidd trade seeing as Dallas probably likes him as a player and Terry is more of a scoring guard off the bench or a starter in the back court with Kidd. And Dallas might want to move Terry instead. I don't know. Still, Jose Juan Barea is an undersized point guard but one who's contract is very movable if Dallas should want to move him.

We need versatility, and Barea unfortunately doesn't add to that. Cassell is a different player. He is a quick mid-range gunner and has size, which is something we lack. Barea doesn't bring anything new to the table, so I think he's not the right fit.
Besides, why would the Mavs cut him if they have 12 available players after the Kidd trade (which is a 5-for-2)? They might get Antoine Wright in a seperate deal, but still they wouldn't cut Barea and bring the roster down to 12.

Yeah, he's basically their back up point guard after the trade. JTerry is more of a SG and plays that way in their offense. JJ Barrea is a legit point guard in this league. The Mavs would be stupid to trade him. I see him as a player who can take over as the starter after Kidd retires. That's one of the reasons I think they are able to the do the Kidd trade anyway. Just my two cents.

and what would he bring to the table? Hmmm? Seriously. What would he bring? Last time i checked he doesn't play an ounce of defense, he's undersized, plays out of control, can't shoot, and isn't a playmaker.
Gabe Pruit would KILL this kid!
he's the mavs version of Rudy. Avery Johnson only keeps him because he has heart. He probably reminds Avery a little bit of himself..except Avery was a decent player.

dude, Powe and Baby are killing bigs right now. don't undervalue how good our bench actually is....
I know we're not used to it, but occasionally young players step up and contribute on good teams. I think ainge found two gems in Powe and Baby. I wouldn't even worry about bringing in another big right now. I would focus on bringing in a backup point guard. Sam Cassell or BUST KID!

Are you JJ's cousin? The kid is scrappy but is overmatched physically most nights and is a poor decision maker. Not really an NBA player long term.

No I just watched the kid play a lot while he was at Northeastern and have beena fan of his for a while now. He's quick as all hell and can take it to the hole with the best of them. What he lacks in size on the defensive end, he makes up for in effort. He's got a pretty sweet jumper to boot. Overall I would say he has a long career in the NBA and a good shot as a starting PG if he continues to improve. I would say that most Mavs fans would agree with me too.
