First of all, i think this thread is disgraceful. All of you are burying the guy for no good reason, maybe because you're too used to players who take off unnecessary amounts of time to come back from minor injuries - but Garbo is a warrior and he loves to play the game, and will come back as soon, if not sooner than he's physically able to. Unlike Ford, Jorge is a real player and a competitor, and not a PUSS. That's why you don't think Garbo will play, is because you're too used to Ford's pussy antics. he's still likely to have a long career in the NBA too - he may be 30 already, but he's a gritty, tough, and can play through injuries... that spells longevity, in comparison to a player like Ford who has already considered retirement many times in a few seasons of actually playing, and needs months of mental rehabilitation to get over a fall.

Still better all around player than Moon. He is the missing piece for the Raptors this year. Defensively he's better, he shoots better and doesn't smile after a hard foul.
How is Garbo a better defender than Moon? He's slow footed, can't be matched up with athletic players, is not a shot-blocker, often got beat off the dribble, and is worse at rebounding. Garbo is a tweener 3/4 who would be overpowered by PF's and burned by SF's. Sure, he's crafty, but that doesn't make him a better defensive player.
Shoots better? Garbo shot 42% last year, Moon is putting up the same ppg on 46% shooting.
I like Garbo, but he's really overrated on this board. He's no game-changer, he's just a decent 8-9th man off the bench. I'd take Moon over him any day of the week.

Oh yeah, nice. Taking a shot at a player who nearly had a LIFE-THREATENING INJURY!

You criticizing TJ? Yet you're defending a guy who would rather play for his national team despite orders from the Raptors organization not to, comes back broken, and decides to sit the season out.

You should look at some 2006-2007 games on Raps Tv (Raptors rewind). Garbo was a key piece of our team. Put him in full health with this year's team and we may win 5 more ball games, he was THAT important if you just ask me...

Really, because my degree in MedSci never stated that spinal stenosis was life threatening.
But hey, if you say so, it must be true, because you're talking so matter-of-factly as if you actually know the facts.
Stick to talking about ball, because you clearly know nothing about medical science.

You're right, I do know nothing about medicine. I'm still a student. So I'll take your word for it.
However, I'm referring to TJ's injury with the Milwaukee Bucks. Where he was paralyzed for a long period of time after injuring his spinal cord. Where he had to undergo cervical spine surgery.

The thing is, I could understand the frustration that some Garbo fans fell because for the most part, Raptors fans have disrespected him and made fun of him simply because he is a player with lots of heart who will come back as quickly as possible. The issue the other poster is bringing up is that most fans are not treating Garbo's injury with any respect. Just last week, on this board, many posters said its not cool to criticize players for injuries, and now look at this thread.
It just shows the double standards held by Raps fans based on whther a player is popular or not.
Pretty much, everyone should shut up about Garbo and treat him with the same respect that they treat al the rest of our injured players. He's an incredibly tough guy, and yet few are willing to admit it.
And anybody who has a long memory (which is prety much nobody on this board, who all hysterically overexaggerate any new news, and are eternally wrapped up in a state of mania), wil lremember how important and useful Garbo was to our team.

Normally a player who has missed this much of the year will likely come back next season.
It's hard to imagine he will play in the playoffs, but if he comes back by the end of March or something then may be.
If he is going to play for Spain I think he should give it a go for a few games for the Raptors. [Given that he is somewhat healthy]

healthy, confident garbo is a heck of a player who would be starting at SF for us because he can guard 3 positions and move the ball. hurt garbo, the one we saw this fall, is a weak 3 point set shooting pylon who doesn't get minutes because he's ineffective.
whatever his status, there's no way he plays this year because he won't be healthy, confident garbo in time, given the updates we've gotten and his age. no way he'll have any lateral quickness this year.
assuming he doesn't play for the raps this year, who cares if he plays for spain next summer? he'll have to get back into game shape, which involves learning to trust a leg which would've been amputated in a 3rd world country. go spain.
