Indiana-Portland Can a deal happen?

Post#1 » by magee » Tue Feb 19, 2008 1:43 am

I was on the Blazers board and there is talk Danny Granger is the main attraction in a deal between the two teams. Just wondering if anyone here has heard about it.

Haven't and I think the entire fan base would rebel if it were true.

J.T., are you talking about this quote from Chad Ford on ESPN?

[Portland] made a determined effort to nab Devin Harris from Dallas and also has been in hot pursuit of the Pacers' Danny Granger. He may land neither, but he is ready to give up players like Travis Outlaw, Sergio Rodriguez, Jarrett Jack and Martell Webster if the right opportunity comes up.

if that is the deal, then i would personally fly to indy from floirda barge into larrry's office stuff him in a suitcase and send him out to boston.

Danny is our franchise player and he and williams are our future.

the player portland mentions are crap.

Oh. It's from Ford? Well, then I doubt it goes down.

A kid on an Oregonlive.com message board said he's Pritchard's son's friend and that the deal would be:

Webster, Jack and Frye, as well as 2 2008 picks (possibly 1 1st and 1 2nd, or two 2nds), for Granger. He didn't say anyone else, but the only two contracts that work are either Jeff Foster's or Marquis Daniels. Since Daniels doesn't replace Frye's size, I can only see it as being Foster.

Yeah, those players are crap, but Martell would fit perfectly into Jim O'Brien's "live by the 3, die by the 3" system. Frye has range on his shot, to go along with an improving post game. Jack fills the dribble penetration viod that Tinsley leaves whenever he gets hurt. Not defending the trade itself, Portland would bamboozle Bird in this deal, but I'm just defending the players involved.

There is no way in hell I would want to do that. A few of Portlands role guys for Granger? Haha, good one.

Don't Williams and Granger play the same position?

Anyway, since this talk kinda started on the Blazer Board, thought I'd let you guys know what we've heard. So far, not much beyond the Chad Ford article and some posters from other Blazer forums saying this has some legs to it. I wouldn't doubt for a second that Pritchard is really interested in Granger, as the ESPN article suggests. He'd be a great fit for the Blazers.

That said, at this point and time, I'm calling shinannigans on some of the forum talk that we've heard out here. Supposedly, the poster from a different Blazer Board has been right on deals that were close to happening, but I don't know how true it is. What I do know is that this "other" Blazer Forum has really lax rules when it comes to making stuff up and getting everyone excited, so the chances that this is all made up is VERY high coming from them.

The stance a lot of Blazer fans are taking (myself included) is that we need to hear something from a source we trust around here before getting really excited about it.

And FWIW, the poster who started the rumor on the other Blazer Forum says that Ike Diogu is in play as well. Again, take it with the tiniest grains of salt right now.

If I get any serious news about this, I'll be sure to bring it over.

Exactly. Not much more than, what I like to call, "forum fluff" right now. All I can say is I've had it confirmed that the poster who originally posted the rumor on OLive (BlazerBrass), does indeed have a good reputation with these kinds of things.

Hmm...I suppose only time will tell, but I highly doubt that Indiana would trade Granger.

actually williams is better suited at sg/sf while granger plays sf/pf
anyways portland has tons of 2nd rd picks THAT WE GAVE TO THEM FOR JAMES WHITE

i would want Oden for granger, but that wont happen, the i would settle for aldridge

I think any Granger trade that didn't net Oden or Connelly would be a community relations disaster.

The only reason for this to happen is so Portland can get reparation for the Oneal/Davis trade. You owe us a favor.

Seriously though, Indy would be crazy to do this unless one of our big 3 is coming back.

IDK about that - hell, Roy or Aldridge from POR alone would be nice - say "even" (or better) w/ Danny, IMO.

Granger isn't being traded for a bunch of random guys. We have random guys, they don't win games.

And a random 1st round pick doesn't cut it either.

The only way I could see this going down is if we traded Daniels and Diogu for Mike Miller, and then Granger for a crap platter thinking we have Miller, but then have Frye and Webster as well to make something out of.

Egads.

I doubt Pacers trade Granger unless Aldridge is coming back to Indy.
