Crawford is a better player than you give him credit for. He doesn't make insain money and he can put up big numbers. He's not a superstar, but neither would the guys that we'd be giving up to get him.

The guy puts up 20 - 2.8 - 4.8 - 1.1 - .2 per game... he's better than anything we got going.

Although it doesn't provide defense, I'd have to say that Vince Carter would make Orlando quite dangerous.

Let's just say I don't fear your guards

With Carter in the fold (who by the way has some solid defensive stats although no one would believe it), I'd be scared, really scared of the Magic. Even more so than the Celtics...

I'm torn between Ridnour and Watson

I like Watsons defense but he is another small guard a la Jameer. I wanted to go after him when he was a free agent the year we signed Dooling

With Ridnour, he is as bad defensively as Jameer but he is a 'pass first" pg which I would love to have

kinda OT since it's a magic trade thread, but if the mike miller to indiana trade goes down, they'll have an all white lineup, and a good one

Perhaps he was standing in Jeff Fosters big white shadow. God knows he's white enought for both of them.

That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing J. Crawford here in Orlando.

I'd love to have Crawford here. He's a legit starting SG who DOES pass. His shot selection has gotten better, and when he gets hot he's unstoppable.

If we didn't have Evans I'd want to make a huge push for this guy.

Udonis Haslem and Nick Collision would be the top choice in my book...Collison is a better shooter and offensive rebounder, Haslem is a better scorer and overall rebounder, they both play hard nosed, Udonis is more emotional and has more attitude...

either or would be perfect...

Don't expect any big deals. Even if we just got Nick Collison if he is indeed available that would be just fine by me as long as we are not messing with the core.

And Battie is really overrated around here, serviceable? Yes but he didn't exactly have much of an impact last post season he also makes alot of money..

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

With Denton you are just hearing otis' side of the story.

Yeah, except that only about 1 in 200,000 rumors that they speculate on end up coming true. To me, that is an advanced Real GM site, fans of the game who post their thoughts.

As far as a Wilcox or Collison deal goes, the newspaper in Seattle is raining on your parade....

Carlesimo said last week the Sonics want to take a long look at their big men -- Swift and Johan Petro -- and he won't use a five-man rotation at center and power forward. The two players in that mix who won't lose playing time are Chris Wilcox and Nick Collison, meaning Thomas is almost certain to spend more time on the bench.

So with a five-man rotation out of the question and Swift and Petro still young and unproven, and Wilcox and Collison being mainstays, it appears Thomas is out and perhaps could be moved by Thursday's trade deadline.

From Orlando Sentinel:

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/b ... 0352.story

Power needed

The lack of a true power forward is an issue, and Smith has been in talks with several teams about filling Orlando's gaping hole along the front line. Seattle's Kurt Thomas and Chris Wilcox are available and favorites of Smith's, but the package Orlando would send back to the Sonics is up in the air.

Carlos Arroyo, Pat Garrity, Maurice Evans, James Augustine and Keyon Dooling have expiring contracts, something that is immensely valuable to teams looking to slash payroll. Under NBA rules, Orlando can't include its first-round pick in any potential deals as a sweetener because teams aren't allowed to trade consecutive draft picks.

Magic-Heat feud

As for potentially acquiring Miami's Udonis Haslem, it is highly unlikely the Magic and Heat will become trade partners anytime soon because of the lingering bitterness from the summer. Miami briefly held up Orlando's hiring of Van Gundy by demanding compensation in return.

And Smith said on Monday with conviction that seldom-used guard J.J. Redick would not be dealt before Thursday's deadline. Smith has held firm on not getting rid of Redick even in the face of his numerous trade requests.

Vowed Smith: "That's a definite. I'm not trading J.J."

While Smith did acknowledge that he's looking to add a power forward type, he said there is no great pressure to make a deal.

"Am I looking for something to fix us up right now? No, because we're not a broken team," he said. "If I can find a bigger body who can play, well then great. But it has to make sense for us because I'm not doing a deal just because some other teams are dealing."

Howard, for his part, came out in support of his teammates, saying he feels the Magic have enough firepower with Hedo Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson to be a legitimate playoff contender.

Whereas the Lakers got Pau Gasol to give Kobe Bryant more support, Phoenix acquired Shaquille O'Neal to play alongside of Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire and Dallas is attempting to surround Dirk Nowitzki with Jason Kidd, Howard said he has enough firepower in Orlando.

it was in a newspaper!?!? surely, it must be true!!!

those two are on nice contracts and they're young, so the Sonics wouldn't immediately plan to ship them. but, if it means they can clear another overpaid player off their payroll (read Ridnour/Watson), and help them clear up to 12mil in cap space, then they just might do it.

i'd imagine they'd prefer to ship out Collison before Wilcox, just because Wilcox still has room to grow and can be an absolute offensive gun when he's on. which suits me fine, because Collison would be a great fit here, and so would Ridnour IMO.

the Kurt Thomas deal would only go through if the Sonics are getting picks from it, because they won't want to swap him for more expirings, and JJ alone might not be worth anything to them.

at least the deadline will be over soon and things can settle back down to focusing on basketball and a deep playoff push.

I'm not sure what Seattle would want from us in order to get Kurt Thomas, but that is a guy I would really like to see on this team. He definitely would provide defense, rebounding and toughness, things we severely lack.

I've said all along that Kurt Thomas would be great, but since he's an expiring, I've figured it will be tough for the Magic to offer an acceptable package.

I'm personally glad to know that JJ isn't being traded, and it makes me wonder if Bogans is going to be included in deals. Bogans contract isn't bad at all and he might fit well on another team.

Glad to know that Otis is working the phones and that he seems genuinely interested in getting a PF.

the only problem, is that any deal we swing will almost certainly have to include a PG, and I'm not really comfortable shipping out a point and not getting one in return...and if we are dealing with Seattle, they are almost in the same boat as us, they have a load of PG's that are probably each being shopped...and to be honest, I'm ok if we have to take back Ridnour/Watson/West in any deal, the only real issue there is, I dont see Seattle chipping either in if we go for Wilcox/Collison/Thomas...
