Next Up, Vince...
Now with Kidd gone it only seems right that the nets move would be to move Carter. However, I've been hearing mixed reviews on this as some believe him and Harris could be a great tandem in the backcourt.
Do you guys think he'll be moved before the deadline? If you think he will what are some teams that would realistically show some interest in him and what could we get for him?
I would love just to get expirings and a first or two, I know ORL has had some interest and has plenty of expirings.

That just reminded me that we no longer have the best backcourt in the NBA anymore.

Anyway, I doubt VC gets moved by Thursday. I really think that our roster could do some damage in the playoffs. We are not a bad team, and we were't before Kidd. Everyone thinks that we are straight to rebuilding mode, but we didn't get a project in Harris. He is a proven PG that can contribute to a team, as he showed in Dallas.

I think Rod is going to have an interesting 3-4 days to say the least. While I agree it makes sense to purge Carter because we are rebuilding, I would not get rid of him if we aren't getting anything back. For at least the remainder of this season I think he could be a good fit for this team.
Stylistically speaking, Harris is a better PG for VC then JKidd. VC was horrible on the break so Kidd never really clicked with him there. Kidd was such a bad shooter he couldn't draw away the double team on VC or hit the open kick out. One of VC's biggest strengths is his passing ability and now with Harris (whose weakness as a PG might be his passing) it will become a huge asset. Harris is a very good finisher and his jumpshot has improved a lot. I could see them playing off each other very well.
I am not saying I expect Carter to suddenly become the player we all want him to be, but if he is able to win a few games in the playoffs as "the man" you would have to think that his value will go up for an offseason trade. Ray Allen off of an injury was worth a top 10 pick and he has never won anything.
I don't think VC is anything more then a temporary solution (if he is even good enough for that), but I do think for the next 2 months it would be better to have him then nothing. At this point he can't lose anymore trade value so we really have nothing to lose.

Carters' value is not good right now. But he always plays better 2nd half of the season, so if he has a solid playoffs, his value will be much higher.
BUT, if VC plays good from here on out, we'll also be high on him and we won't want to trade him anymore. A conundrum.
I don't think Thorn is going to let himself get tricked into thinking VC is the franchise (unless he singlehandedly beats the Celts and gets to the finals or something). No matter what Carter does the rest of the year he still isn't the type of competitor and leader winning teams need and Thorn knows that.

I could see a Carter for Tmac deal, straight up.
I could then see off season moves involving our plethora of draft picks and/or one of our prospects and/or RJ for a big man.
I could also see Rod still trying for Mike Miller before the deadline.

Houston would have to be borderline insane to pull that trade.vincecarter4pres wrote:I could see a Carter for Tmac deal, straight up.

I'm not complaining if it happens though.

I do think Vince will be moved eventually but hopefully not for JO. I just don't like that trade. Its going to be hard moving Vince this season, just because of that contract status. Thorn won't trade him to New York, I don't see that ever happening.
I think come this offseason they should get better offers for him. Simply because WCF teams will be looking to retool going into the new season. Utah and NO easily come to mind as teams that could use an all star caliber 2 guard.
As of now, I am interested as to see how this team as presently constructed will play together

What does Hate have to do with any of this?
Trading VC is more important now that Kidd is gone. It has nothing to do with VC the person. It is just his contract.
Maybe this will work for you, SLIMM and all the VC supporters or lovers.
We dont HATE VC. We just HATE his contract!!!!!!

We stopped having the best backcourt in the NBA the minute the wifebeater started dogging it and half man/half overpaid decided that signing a 60 million dollar extension meant that he play passive.
With that said, I see no reason for the Nets to trade Carter unless the deal is right, meaning NOT FOR JERMAINE O'NEAL.
I'm actuallty interested in seeing what the Carter/Harris backcourt can do with the team we have. Who knows, now with Kidd gone, Carter might play better if the offensive focus shifts back to him. Time will tell, but from what we've heard there are no good deals worth trading Carter for. We actually NEED Vince if we expect to remain competitive, and with a young athletic froncourt and a lightning fast PG, we need that go to guy.
*sigh*
