Chris Wilcox: "What's Up?"

Post#1 » by D5150 » Tue Feb 19, 2008 2:28 pm

from todays seattle times:

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/s ... oni19.html

interesting comments from wheezy. i think sometimes lost in all of this is the players and their feelings/concerns. we tend to think of them simply as "assets" to be traded and signed, but these guys have a lot to consider when deciding who to play for. there seems to be some confusion on the players part as to what is happening with the team and that certainly can translate to problems on the court. they are pros but they are human too.

and if the sonics think it was hard getting free agents to sign while in seattle, good luck getting a top free agent to go play in OKC.

BTW: Reading Wilcox's comments, it looks like he doesn't wants any part of OK City and most likely wouldn't re-sign with the team, if they'd move over there.

Perhaps that's why his name has popped up in trade rumors... he wan't no part of any move?

Yeah, maybe. Or all this rumors are just floating around because Clay Clay wants to save as much money as possible, with the possibility of the Sonics staying in Seattle till 2010.

I like Weezy and think he can be really good offensively with a PG who can get him the ball. He has a difficult time establishing his own game, but is excellent at feeding off the action. If the Sonics draft a dynamic PG, then his game might flourish.

He's knows it, too, as evidenced by his pointed comments earlier in the season about lack of touches and plays. Durant's been a chucker. Watson is a bad passer. Ridnour is a deer in the headlights. Wilkins was a chucker before he was benched. Nobody paid attention to Wilcox.

I can't prove it, but I think he cares about his team and wants to win, versus just wanting to get paid. This article reinforces it, that he likes Seattle even though the team is terrible.

He's worth keeping in my mind, at least until the team gets a real PG. He's not Robert Horry, Bruce Bowen, or Nick Collison, so he might get traded, but I think it's too early to decide.

"We've got coyotes and cougars and everything."

I'm sure Wilcox, being 25 years old, athletic and rich, encounters plenty of cougars in Sammamish.

Sounds like Wilcox really likes the Pacific Northwest.

I can't blame the guy for what he said, I'd want to know where I'll be living too. Same with Wilkins.

Anyone hear what Wally said today on the pregame show?

He said something to the effect of "I've said this before, no one in this locker room is pointing fingers. I have great teammates. There isn't a bad guy in this locker room. We just need to come out and play harder. I can't believe where our record is because we are a better team than that".

I agree with him 100%. How many games have been lost by a possesion or two? I don't expect this team to win 50 games but I think they are better than 20wins.

Also I know Wally is getting paid a boat load. But after next season (if healthy) I want him back on the cheap. That guy can flat out shoot. Plays his heart out on the floor. Wally has always been a great competitor and I like his energy. He'd be a great option to have on the bench when you need some scoring.
