Worth a shot....
*Now*
#1 - Trade Andre Iguodala for Luol Deng
#2 - Trade Rodney Carney + Willie Green + Reggie Evans for JJ Redick Pat Garrity Keith Bogans + 2nd Rounder
*Summer*
Trade Andre Miller + Louis Williams (Future 1st round pick...maybe) to Washington for Gilbert Arenas
Hope that sixers land a Top 10 pick.....
If pick is in Top 3 (Unlikely) Draft Best player available....If not look to deal...
Make a run at Elton Brand
Hope for the best...
Gilbert Arenas
Thaddeus Young
Luol Deng
Elton Brand
Samuel Dalembert
JJ Redick
Keith Bogans - Resigned
Is a pretty good starting block for next season season
Ok, so how do we get to a championship caliber level?

I think next year, without any legit off-season moves other than the draft, this team could be a 6th-5th seed team. That doesn't put us far off.
Yes it does. The difference between a 5-6th team (re: .500) and a contender is light years, and moving from a .500 team to a contender in the salary cap/lottery nba is one of the hardest things in sports to do.

I agree with the premise that this team - purely due to development/growth - could be a 5th/6th place team next season...however, there will be one addition (other than our draft pick) - whatever we can do with our cap room this summer. This could very well add a player that could take us from a middle-of-the-pack team to a legit conference contender.
I would still like to see one more contract moved by the deadline (Evans, Green or Carney)...and even if we don't get dollar-for-dollar expirings, if we could even add $2-3 million in cap room by the summer, I think there will be enough ammo for Eddie to take a shot.
One more question (and I am sorry if this has been asked before): this summer, could we trade, say, Evans and our cap room for a $15-16 mil player?

My plan:
1) Waive Shav and pick up Justin Williams off waiver
2) Look to sign either Okafor or Josh Smith over the summer
3) Draft either Ibaka or Thabeet depending upon who we acquire in FA (Sam has been solid and healthy but this team is one sprained ankle away from not having a true 5). We definitely need more insurance at this position and Thabeet seems like the perfect candidate at 7'3 to split minutes with Sam at the 5. Thabeet may show enough down the road to make Sam expendable, in which we have one more solid trading piece.
I keep away from Brand. Brand is a big name player coming off a major injury. This has the potential to be CWebb all over again because Brand is a name-brand item that will have to be given playing time regardless of his performance. The reason this team is finally good is because we've gotten away from that mode of thinking where players get playing time based on who they were and not who they are. This team should be all about earning minutes, not being handed them. I would much rather take my chances on healthier, younger PF's, or even draft the best available PF on the board, than gamble on a veteran who's best days might be behind him.
PG: Miller, Lou W.
SG: Iguodala, Green
SF: Thaddeus, Carney
PF: Okafor or Smith, Jason Smith, Justin Williams
C: Sam, Thabeet
