Devin Harris or Jose Calderon?
Who would you rather have? I'll go with Harris, he's a lockdown defender with amazing speed and has a great jumpshot and good slashing ability. He'll be a top pg in the future.

Interesting comparison.
Harris is a solid shooter and a decent playmaker... and an outstanding defender.
Calderon is a crappy defender but a much better shooter and in a whole other category as a playmaker. Personally, I choose Calderon because I prefer the strengths he provides...
But you can make a very legitimate argument in Harris' favor on account of him being one of only two guys who can man-up on a healthy D-Wade and actually limit him effectively in single coverage.

Harris just does not have the skill to play PG for the rest of his career, he aint a great passer or dribbler.
You need to actually WATCH Harris before you make these comments; he's not a great passer, sure, but his handles are certainly not under question here.
Calderon is better than Harris in nearly all aspects of the game, except maybe defence.
MAYBE defense? MAYBE?

Am I in the current Eastern or Western conference? Who do I have to worry about in the playoffs? Who else is on my team? All of these questions would influence my decision.
If I'm in the WC, and I have to worry about going through CP3, Nash, Baron Davis, Deron Williams, (now) Jason Kidd, etc then I'll probably take Harris because of his defense. If I'm in the EC, I'll take Calderon hands down.
However, if Yao Ming is on my team in the WC, then I'll take Calderon because he has the ability to feed Yao the ball and to take pressure off of him with great shooting.
To me it's just a matter of what your current situation is.

Depends on what you are looking for
If you want the pure playmaker, then you take Calderon
If you want the great defender, you take Harris
If you want the deadeye outside shooter, you take Calderon
If you want the jet quick guy who can get to the basket easily, you take Harris
I'd probably end up taking Calderon myself

calderon is the better playmaker. devin is the better slasher.
devin harris can at least defend, while calderon doesn't even know the basics of defense, which hopefully is his coaches fault...i hope it is.
calderon is better though, but if devin gets some freedom in new jersey, hopefully he can find his way as a playmaker. calderon had that freedom this year.
frank is a bit of a control freak, so we'll see if he sets devin free.
Free Devin!

great post.
i think they'll regret this jason kidd trade, because of devin's speed and ability to get to the basket at will, keeping the opposing pg honest when having to defend someone just as fast as them or even faster than them in devin.
if somehow they can combine as one player....they'd be chris paul i guess.

Sure, you can justify picking a player depending on what system you're running and how they'd fit in with the players you already have. But if we're talking about who the flat out better player is, it's Jose Calderon.
Personally, I'm taking Calderon no matter the circumstance. Same thing if you're picking in a draft, you can't pick on position and team needs, you gotta go BPA.
