By the way, it'll be interesting to see if the Nets move Vince Carter before Thursday's deadline. He seems to be the big name that some "experts" are saying will be moved next and should the Nets look to dump him to a team like Orlando for their expirings and a pick, the Nets could become big players in the summer with cap space.

No one takes on Vince Carter's groosly overpaid contract and gives the Nets expirings. No matter how good Vince carter makes them.

We are also talking to Minny about Doleac.....we asked about Ratliff(and his nice expiring contract)..and they do not want to move it.

But doesn't Ed realize that teams are in the contention for being with us in the RFA market. He needs to show players that we are an upcoming team that can win. We need to go out, and make a splash, even if it's a little one, that helps our team win games and makes us attractive. All the money in the world won't help if you suck, which unfortunately we've all forgotten we do.

If we're talking about Doleac... my guess is that we're looking to ditch Willie Green (the salaries match up). Is this right??

I'm not against Ed's plans. I think it's good trying to stockpile enough money to amass a high level contract. But at the same time that you do that, you've also got to be able to field a good team. Do you think players will come to a team with max cap room, with about 5 or so players? Maybe in NBA 2K8, not in real life.

Dedicated... what are you talking about? The Sixers will still have it's core group of talent entering the summer (Iguodala, Young, Dalembert, Williams, Smith, and probably Miller) so it's not as though losing Willie Green or Rodney Carney is going to make Emeka Okafor or whoever turn down big bucks if the Sixers offer them.

The names that are coming up today are interesting. Doleac, Ratliff, Kurt Thomas. All of these guys are expiring contracts and that tells me that Ed does NOT believe he has enough cap space right now to get done what he wants to get done in the summer.

What I mean, is that we're a team that CANNOT shoot. At all. We have no other elements then being athletic. You tell me a serious FA who wants to go to a team that if not for Andre Miller would be winning the rose bowl right now.

How am I clueless? We're a good shooting team? We have some semblence of promise? We're winning ball games?

I'm sorry to announce but we are SEVEN games under .500, we have no franchise players or potential robins bare Iguodala. With the exception of Louis Williams and Thaddeus Young and potentially Jason Smith, we have no players who can produce on the offensive end. Not even Gilbert Arenas would come to this sorry excuse of a team.

Yes. I am telling you a "serious FA" (are there comedic FAs available??) will sign where the money is; Andre Miller or no Andre Miller. There are exceptions to every rule but the rule is that professional athletes will take the most money from whoever is offering it. Do you think an agent is going to suggest/allow his client to sign for less when the agents' commission is based on percentage points of the contract that is signed?

nothing we do will make us more desireable of a destination to FA's. To mention that is clueless. There is no splash to make. minor moves and/or more money will keep us moving forward. How many trade deadlines have you followed anyway?

Ouryoung guys are our appeal. that's it...that and whatever money we offer. I'm really glad you aren't against Ed's plans though...it'd be worrisome if you didn't approve.

This is from Marc Stein's power rankings that were just put online.

Marc Stein wrote:How wild would it be, in their first full season apart, if the Sixers made the playoffs and Iverson's Nuggets didn't? How wild would it be if the Sixers traded for Artest before Denver? Both scenarios, as of today, are alive.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/powerrank ... 08&week=16

So I guess these Artest rumors will continue to have a pulse no matter no weak it is.

I think we realize he has to walk a fine line here.

If he can do that without seriously harming the future of this team, that's fine. Swapping somebody nearly irrelevant like Carney for a quality veteran bench player would be acceptable to me.

But making a trade that really harms the future in exchange for an extra 5 wins this year would really tick me off.

Could they get Kurt Thomas and Artest?? It would kill the draft pick, but that would be a ton of money in the off season.

If they do get Kurt Thomas in the deal suggested, they would have roster spots for Fazekas or maybe a flier on the Williams kid.
