Obviously when I say a veteran I mean a veteran who can actually play. But adding a rookie who played 9 !!! minutes this season and whose ceiling isn`t high to a team that is trying to win a ring this year (and is in luxury tax land) just makes no sense, I am sorry!

Well, my question is how high is his ceiling? He was a D-League All-Star and is not too undersized at center. It seems like the D-League stars that won't make it in the NBA are rather undersized or lacking in basketball IQ. Fazekas is reputed to have a high basketball IQ.

Remember Allred who was on our summer league team this season?

He is averaging 16,5 ppg and 10,0 rpg in the NBDL. So it is not like these stats say much.

And I am not even saying Fazekas won`t be a decent player in a couple of years but he can`t help us this season and that is all that matters!

Well I'm looking at Fazekas as a project like Pruitt. Allred was an interesting comparison, but Allred is also 5 years older.

He was a GREAT rebounder in college, and he is one hell of a shooter, not a big time shot blocker but if we need somoene to spread the floor and draw away a teams opposing center he is perferct, not a lot of lateral quickness, but were talking about the guy as a 3rd center, and he could with clifford ray improve his D technique I defintly would sign him i wanted us to pick him in the 2nd round the man can flat out shoot. He shot 43% from college 3 last year, think uninjured Raef Lafrentz lite, not at all a bad player to have.

I never got the Fazekas hate from scouts.

Sure, he needs to get stronger and he doesn't run pretty. He has trouble guarding big time athletes and he will likely never be more than an average defender. Deficiencies, yes.

On the plus side, though, he can score inside and out. He rebounds and he has good hands. Assuming a gain in strength, he can cover some smaller Cs and some bigger PFs.

If you want a good bench big with the ability to score and rebound, you really couldn't ask for much else, imo.

I think Brad Miller isn't a good comp, personally. I think Fazekas is a lot like Ryan Gomes was coming out, though with better size and more established perimeter scoring but not the ability to dribble drive, the foot speed to play on the wing or as good of post moves. Sure, there are differences but I also see a lot of similarities.

I think on the low side you are probably looking at a Brian Cook/Scott Padgett type player. On the high side, he could be a lot like Troy Murphy. Either way that that could be pretty valuable coming off the bench.

Allred also is the reigning H-O-R-S-E champion of the NBDL all-star game. He can nail some awesome shots off from his back, I'm sure that is really useful.

This is what I know about Fazekas, everyone on the Dallas board was kicking themselves for selecting him over Big Baby after seeing what Davis plays like. In other words, he wouldn't be seeing any time on our team.

I don't know how much longer this team can last with 2 players taller than 6'8" (no, Mr. Celtics Now doesn't count). The people yelling about how he won't help us now make me laugh, though, given our recent history of rookies helping out sooner than expected (Jefferson, Tony Allen, Gomes, Powe, Rondo, and Davis).

Fazekas is worth a look if Danny decides that no big man vet. is worth it this year.

Here's why:
Going into this offseason the Celtics have a 2008 first round pick and a 2010 first round pick. This means that they have zero flexibility to trade future first round picks until the 2011 draft! If they sign Fazekas as a development-type project (assuming DA sees real potential), then I'd say odds are decent that Ainge tries to "roll over" the 2008 1st rounder for a 2009 pick from another playoff team.

This makes sense for a few reasons:
1. It is going to be hard for a rookie to win time on the C's next season. They should sign another MLE vet, bring back Posey and all five starting positions are set (not to mention Baby, Powe or TA).
2. The Celtics will also be over the luxury tax (again) so any 1st rounder will come at double the cost. Fazekas will be a bit cheaper and not require a three year commitment.
3. Powe and Baby have definitely been improving their value this season. If Danny decides to trade one of them, then Fazekas offers a nice alternative as a back up big.
4. Flexibility for in-season trades next year as mentioned above.

The biggest issue with Fazekas is that no matter his size the guy isn't a center, even on this team. He is a Troy Murphy type player not Brad Miller and if you have seen Troy play center you would know what I mean. He has a place in the league I just don't know if that place is Boston.

we have 2 rosters spots so if we can get him for cheap money then why not givehim a shot. I think his lack of quickness hurt him in the draft and I'm not sure he's much of a defensive player but he can hit the open shot and he has size

Because the Celtics payroll is already over $82 million for the season (including luxury tax) and Wyc & the other owners are not going to shell out anymore unless the person can definitely make a difference. Fazekas does not qualify.

If he was any good, Dallas would have never cut him. It's not that often that 6'10" rookie (supposedly talented) big men get cut. There is something wrong with him.

There is about a 99% chance that he is soft as a pillow. Soft big men don't play in the NBA. So why waste our time?
