Ratliff won't be traded

Post#1 » by shrink » Tue Feb 19, 2008 11:07 pm

I think this is what most expected, but I thought you'd be interested in this post from the Trade Board

The Guilty Party wrote:shrink... a poster on the Sixers' board with inside sources said the Sixers have called the Wolves about Doleac and Ratliff and were told the Wolves have no plans to move Ratliff and want him to just expire. I figured I'd pass that tidbit along to you. The poster is the only one on the Sixers board who has proven to know deals before they happen so take it for what it's worth.

I would think Daly and some pick or youth maybe. They might be trying to clear some lute out and totally rebuild.

They are gonna have to match a max offer on IGgy this summer and might be looking to get rid of any longer term contracts to totally rebuild around Iggy

I think it would have had to be a package with Daly, no?

That was the first question MN Die Hard asked too! This was the response:

The Guilty Party wrote:Don't get too excited, MN Die Hard. The source has said that Ed Stefanski (Sixers' GM) has been calling around and is looking to move Willie Green and possibly filler for an expiring. If Ratliff was available, I think the Sixers would look to move Green, Ollie (expiring), and possibly Evans. The Daly for expiring phase is over at this point.

This is of no surprise. Shipping off his contract would kind of go against our plans and quite frankly would only able to Net us some post-prime borderline player like Vince Carter...though I wouldnt mind seeing VC and Big Al haha

What Dally sounds like the perfect compliment for us. If we aren't planning on signing back alot of guys I'd think about taking that deal.

Finding a center at this point really isn't important.

Diop is an unrestricted free agent, so he can go anywhere he wants -- NJN doesn't even have matching rights. The Net's Rod Thorn said he really wanted Diop, but he also has Sean Williams, Josh Boone, and Krstic over there, and one more $6 mil year of Stromile Swift. I don't think Diop is out of the summer market.

To me, trading him for a bad contract would be foolish. We need that cash to resign some guys and to absorb Big's salary next year. Im not too worried and I dont think wed be able to get anyone who would help us enough. Now....Toine's salary next year is a different story, I think a yea from now we will be in position to make a deal like that and for the right reasons. Its just not in our goals.

Though I must abmit Dalembert sounds nice...or Tyson Chandler.

Agreed. I think this year we let Ratliff expire and use the savings on Al's extension and resigning some of our other guys.

I think next year Walker and Buckner will likely be pieces that prominently figure into a trade.

I like Dally, but I'm not sure as helpful as he'd be we'd want to spend that much on a defensive center.
