JS Blog: Villanueva to continue to start

Post#1 » by EastSideBucksFan » Wed Feb 20, 2008 1:06 am

So either this is a last ditch effort to showcase his a$$ or he will showcased over the remaining games left in the season.

Either way, this is a "too little too late" decision IMO as Yi hit the rookie wall in December and should've been benched when we still had a chance to climb the standings.

I suspect we will see a very productive and motivated CV.

He is working hard to get paid and to get the hell out of here.

Villanueva to start
By Tom Enlund

St. Francis - Milwaukee Bucks coach Larry Krystkowiak has decided that Charlie Villanueva will continue to start at power forward and that rookie Yi Jianlian will come off the bench.

Villanueva played well in three games that he started before the all-star break. Plus, Krystkowiak said that experience was a factor in his decision to start Villanueva, in his third season, over Yi for the stretch run of the regular season.

He should've been starting for a while now.

Its fine that he is starting...good for him that he is playing well. But he should have gave a damn when he wasnt starting too and thats why I want him traded.

This is such a great organization. When the games matter for the past two months, we start and give minutes to the guy who has obviously hit the rookie wall and was not helping our team win at all.

Now that our record is shot to **** and the goal should probably be developing our young players and chemistry, we start to play the guy who probably has no part in our future (for better or for worse).

This makes me think that those two deals that BuckSkinsFan talked about aren't going to happen. Why else start him and waste a potential start for Yi? So, it looks like the Bucks are content with doing nothing.

Well, considering how bad the estern conference is, if the Milwaukee bucks can somehow win around 18-19 games, they might get in the playoff picture. The fact of the matter is, Larry K decided to start him a little too late. Had he started since the start of 08, things might have been a little different in terms of team record. And also, this might have given CV a long run to showcase himself to prospective suitors.

Of course they're not going to happen. This is the Bucks we're talking about.

If by playing well people are talking the double/double categories, I agree, but his defense is deplorable and he remains nothing more than a stats player.

That about sums up my feelings also.

And if any of you got a chance to listen to the podcast on bucks.com with Coach K from today..they had the part in there with him talking about CV continuing to start on after the ASG and Coach sounded less than enthusatic about the whole idea of him starting.

I get the impression it probably wasn't his idea...

I don't think it is. Kohl definitely wants Villanueva to get more minutes. It wouldn't surprise me if he's told Harris and/or Kystkowiak the starting role should go to Villanueva so that he can get the minutes Kohl wants him to receive.
Nothing will not break me.

I'm starting to severley doubt CV gets traded, but i'm hoping we move somebody at least. AFter the lockerroom madness ditching Mo Williams has become my #1 hope.

I know we're all itchy for a trade and I certainly am too.

But, strictly from a business perspective, I think they have decided they are not able to get fair value (in their eyes) on Charlie Villanueva and reportedly Simmons and I'm sure Gadzuric. It's in their best interests as a team to get them looking as good as possible down the stretch.

These are assets of the team that shouldn't just be given away.

Obviously there were deals for both of these guys. There was a market for them. But we didn't want what was available.

Combine that with the fact we have an owner that seems to seriously overvalue CV and since Simmons is one of the guys that actually cares what is going on and came to him, it's possible he has placed such value on Simmons as well.

Well yeah, fair value for Gadzuric is a pile of rocks and I don't think trading for a pile of rocks meets the Collective Bargaining Agreement. I could be wrong though, GAD?

I pretty much agree. People can talk about Simmons being overpaid for his production and it's true. We've heard conflicting things about him being a uniter or divider. But to move around parts outside our 3 "productive" guys isn't going to make any difference in the results or the culture.

A move to prop CV's trade value, by TH or late June. Yi is still the future.

In my mind we need to move a starting guard and a CV.

Big smooth should have been starting a long time ago... hopefully he can stay healthy the rest of the year.
