Nets got a great deal...

Post#1 » by risktaker91 » Mon Feb 18, 2008 11:40 pm

I was examining the trade and realized that Thorn did a great job. Yes Kidd is a great player, but he's also very, very old, and how many more years can he play like this? I'm thinking in 2 years he goes Gary Payton and really declines.

I'm a huge Devin Harris fan. I think he's one of the best young PG's, obviously after Paul and Deron. Van Horne and Diop are also good role players and you're getting 2 first round picks. The only bad thing coming back is Hassel's contract I presume.

Even though I hate the Nets, you have to be happy with this trade. You're still a playoff team, younger, and I really don't think you got worse...

D.Harris/M.Williams will be an interesting PG tandem for the future.

Considering SacTown got NOTHING for Bibby, and Memphis got less for Gasol, this is great for the Nets.

So what does everyone else think of the Trade? Still miss J-Kidd?

Well it's going to take a while to really accept that the best time this franchise ever had is over ( most certainly but you never know it's KvH's turn now ) .

Without Kidd is won't be the same and probably less enjoyable but well i know we had to do it . Still it's sad it had to end like this .

Well let's shed a final tear and look forward to the future .

Kidd might be done next year, or he can be like Stockton and play great to the age of 40. But the clock is definitely ticking.

It's win-win.

Dallas feels their window closing, with the rest of the West making moves. They don't just want to show up to the playoffs. And they think Kidd is the missing piece that fills their most pressing needs, keeps them in the hunt.

The Nets aren't a contender. We struggle to be a .500 team, though we do peak in time for the playoffs. But that still only means 2nd round at best. We've seen all that Kidd can do. And Kidd has seen all that this Nets team will do. His big contract limits changes that can be made around him. He's made it clear he plans to go ring shopping, barring a big extension. This is time for a big change, going forward to Brooklyn.

Eh...I'm not happy about staying slammed in the middle of the league, but I'd say financially, we destroyed Cuban in this deal.

I feel it was best for both teams. Dallas wasn't going to win a title with the roster they had, so adding a hall of famer doesn't hurt. On the other side, you guys get Devin Harris who with Marcus Williams gives you 2 young point guards with potential, and with Diop you now have 3 young solid big man to build on. If I were NJ, I'd move VC and RJ and just tank for one of the scorers in this years draft, because if you add a guy like Mayo you'd have an awesome future.

I'm glad we at least got something useful for Kidd...

Harris is a solid player in this league. Not Kidd... but maybe a borderline all-star in the right situation?

devin's alright. Jumper's streaky. People don't even talk about his passing ability when talking about his game which worries me. Dallas got the better end of this deal for at least this year and next.

Devin's D might be better as is his quickness and offensive aggressiveness which are things this nets team lacks. We've dealt with Kidd's poor jump shooting so even if Devin can't shoot it should be nothing new. It's just the playmaking ability that makes this trade iffy. Also, there's a chance we can start getting destroyed on the glass because we dont have Kidd helping out anymore. But we'll see.

Financially though, great move.

Devin says he's up to the task. He obviously didn't watch the Toronto game. I liked the deal until I saw us play without Kidd. good Lord.

As a Knicks fan and business student, I can't help but admire Rod Thorn. He got an AMAZING deal and is appropriately gearing up for the move to Brooklyn. If only the Knicks had a GM with some sort of vision to work towards.

Thorn just said that this year's pick is lottery protected. The 2010 is completely unprotected. That's good stuff.

I sincerely doubt the Mavericks are in the lottery in 2010 unless they have a player suffer a major injury.

It's not that I'm not happy. I'm just saying we've got to rid of Carter's contract too or we're right smack in the middle of the league picking up 15th-17th picks every year with our own picks.

As much as I love Kidd and what he did for us, Shaq still has 4 rings and obviously can do a lot for his team.

I am a digusted Bucks' fan and even I say this was a great deal for both teams but especially for the Nets.

If Van Horn plays and gets in shape you still got Stromile Swift and an RJ running with Devin Harris and can trade Maglorie and Carter now to get some more help.

Plus Thorn stole two first round picks...

Outstanding.
