It's obvious to me that Sam wants to save him for when Duncan is in the game, but I mean that's obviously stupid when we're down 15 and Duncan isn't playing because he doesn't need to...
actually looking at minutes played, maybe not, but I seem to remember the first game Sam would only sub Emeka in when Duncan was going in and in that game Okafor was playing well so it was even more inexplicable.

HAHA, fair enough.
I went and looked at images of him playing in light blue and in his defense it doesn't look like his body type has changed at all.
I'm curious though. Maybe losing 10 points adds to his balance b/c of how his weight is distributed?
Mike Bibby isn't good at finishing at the rim either and they have similar builds. Bibby is an average to above average PG in the league depending on his supporting cast and health and you know I'm not trying to start and Felton drama.

Read me out...
ESPN lists Felton as 6-1 198 lbs. Ray's current PER rank as a PG is 28th. These are the PGs within 1 inch and 15 lbs. that rank ahead of him:
10th. Andre Miller (6-2, 200)
12th. Mo Williams (6-1 185)
19th. Derek Fisher (6-1, 205)
20th. Jameer Nelson (6-1 190)
21st. Stephon Marbury (6-2 205)
25th. Mike Bibby (6-2 190).
Derek Fisher is the last player with a PER above 15.00 (at 15.44). (Every year the league average player (in the NBA, not PG specific) is set to 15.)
Below him, by the same height and weight qualifiers as above are:
31st. Carlos Arroyo (6'2 202)
38th. Earl Watson (6-1 195)
39th. Daniel Gibson (6-2 190)
40th. Anthony Carter (6-2 195)
49th. Chris Quinn (6'2 185)
54th. Chris Duhon (6'1 185)
55th. Mike James (6-2 195)
56th. Jacque Vaghn (6-1 190)
No. 34 Beno Udrih (6-3 200), no. 53 Marcus Banks and no. 63 Acie Law (6-3 195 (6-2 212) are close enough physically that I thought they were worth mention. Nate Robinson, who has played really well this season (14th), is 5-9 180 pounds.
Of the point guards ahead of Andre Miller, no. 2. Chauncy Billups is a similar weight (202) but 2 inches taller than Ray and no. 7 Deron 2 inches and 10 pounds larger.
Amongst the rest of the PGs IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE, some PGs are taller and heavier than Felton, but NONE are smaller and heavier.
Analyzing the SGs (where Ray would currently rank 30th), only no. 13 Leandro Barbosa (4 pounds heavier and 2 inches taller) and no. 20 Ben Gordon (2 pounds and 2 inches<*Worth noting that this is the same as Charlie Bell (56th)>.
Beneath Ray, Bobby Jackson (6-1 185) is ranked 33rd; Luther Head (6-3 185) 34th and 36th Jarret Jack (6-3 197).
Fred Jones is 6-2 225, and that's it. Those are the guards physically similar to Raymond in the NBA. I think this is a really important observation.

I started watching basketball in Portland when they had that awesome team, Drexler & Co. (I went to school there for 4 years). Terry Porter was their point guard, so I always thought points guards should be "meaty" and wide. I honestly think Felton's build is probably very good for an NBA point guard. He could be taller - as could all NBA players! - but if you are a PG and don't lose speed when you gain weight and muscle... that's a good thing. Terry Porter was solid as a rock and never got injured. Felton is solid as a rock and never gets injured (despite trying really hard). Porter was a superior scorer/shooter but I don't remember him having trouble driving. You would think, actually, that a wide body would help shield defenders when you drive
I am not convinced that solid/big builds on fast PG's lead to problems finishing. I think rather it's just very rare to have a human being who is 195 pounds or more and 6'1 or 6'2 and still be fast enough to be an NBA starting PG.
I think almost all of the lighter point guards in the league would benefit from gaining weight/muscle AS LONG as it did not impact their speed/play. TJ Ford, I'm looking at you in particular. You scare me. Please gain some weight and get tough, because I don't want to see your paralyzed.
Felton's got an excellent NBA body and solid NBA athleticism. The problem is in his head, not his body, in my opinion.

I agree and think that most of the finishing issues are because Felton thinks to much and tries to avoid contact while making the shot....Which results in what alot of people like to call "circus shots". However one thing I think does hurt him is that he jumps mainly off two feet. Not sure if you have ever noticed that most guys either mainly jump off one foot or off two feet. Felton being shorter and jumping off two feet seems to limit alot of his variety of moves to the basket... While someone like AI can go off one foot very well and seemingly have an endless assortment of floaters and high bank-shots...fluffernutter wrote:-= original quote snipped =-

I'm not sure if his weight is that big of a deal...depending on his % of body fat... not sure how much lower he should go...

I wonder were Ray ranks against similar starting SG's in the league considering that is the position he is playing. As long as Stupid starts Ray at the SG spot, I don't think it is fair to rip him at all. I am disappointed in his overall play this season, but as long as moron coaches play him out of position and tell him he is a combo guard or shooting guard, how do we expect him to play different. Sink or swim with Ray playing 35 minutes as the sole PG and if that doesn't work, get rid of him and start over. If Ray plays the PG spot and we lose, great we get a good pick. If He plays well, great we got our PG, if he sucks, then we trade and get a new PG. He is and will never be a starting SG in this league.
