Who cares if you don't care if the Kings get ripped off. I think you missed the point. The point is why would the Kings trade Artest unless they are unloading Kenny or getting a prospect like Splitter That's the point. I don't care if you like that idea or not I am just pointing out the fact that there has to be an incentive for the Kings to make the trade, especially if Denver is now willing to give us a 1st Kleiza and expirings. Petrie might of just been playing San Antonio to put pressure on Denver to give up Kleiza.

It isn't like you have leverage on trades. We have been over this many times... Artest comes with baggage and he is an expiring contract. We are not going to go into the Lux tax next year for some worthless undersized power forward while giving up picks and a prospect.

I think the point would be, KT + Artest = trash/expirings

Artest alone = expirings/picks/prospect

What... I don't like Artest for our team. What is there to not understand?

He is just a rental at this point and he would have to come at the cost of a crapatular Thomas with his massive contract and if not we have to give up a cheap big man who the Spurs are very high on.

From hoopsworld:

The Denver Nuggets remain engaged in trade negotiations with the Sacramento Kings. As of Wednesday morning, the Nuggets had been reluctant to part with Linas Kleiza. However, according to a league source, the Nuggets are now "strongly considering" giving up Kleiza in a deal for Artest.

The source indicated that the San Antonio Spurs have now entered the bidding offering a package of Francisco Elson, Brent Barry and multiple draft picks. The Spurs late interest may have encouraged Denver to consider upping the ante in their pursuit of Artest.

Despite Denver's ongoing interest in Artest, Memphis' Mike Miller has been Denver's number one target from the start. However, one source stated that Miller has "been pulled off the table." The Nuggets made an effort to get him, but it appears they are going to come up short in their pursuit.

If Miller is indeed off the table as league sources have indicated, Artest is the last big name in play for the Nuggets. The argument being made by members of Denver's front office is that Artest is a great player, and if the Nuggets can get a great player by giving up complementary pieces, it's a move they have to get done if they can. It's not that people in Denver don't think highly of Kleiza, but at the end of the day he's currently a backup small forward. The thinking is that if Denver has to give up a couple of reserves and a draft pick to get a player of Artest's caliber, it's a deal they have to get done if they can.

As of this moment, no deal is imminent. And in addition to the Spurs, the Houston Rockets are also believed to be looking into the possibility of acquiring Artest. However, the Nuggets appear to be putting on one last full-court press in an effort to win the Artest sweepstakes.

Stay tuned to HOOPSWORLD for the latest.

I don't agree with this, really.

Watching Ron on a regular basis for awhile now (since 2004), these two things are exaggerated a lot. Especially the baggage part. Because since joining the Kings he's been a decent guy, outside of the incident with his wife (no doubt bad). Where that has already been patched up. So overall, this baggage the majority of people talk about has been way overblown.

Also, his passing efforts and ability are one of the most underrated and overlooked parts of his game. He's pretty consistent there, too. And sure he takes questionable shots sometimes, but they are in a small amount when he does take those.

On this team especially, his offensive role would be lessened and would fit in fine, with the situation.

I agree that he has the skills on the court to be an impact player.....but the one thing that I have come to learn about the Spurs FO is that they are a no-nonsense type of Managment that makes smart moves.

After watching his recent on-the-court "pound his chest while egging the fans on" antics against the Pistons, Pacers and ( most notably ) the Jazz......how do you think that the Spurs FO and Popovich would react if he did that in a Spurs uniform while getting ejected from the game?

Unfortunately, this is the way that Artest has always been with teams.....when the pressure is on.....he either rises to the pressure...or he ends up doing something that becomes a distraction to the team.

I agree that taking on Artest is a high reward type of move for any FO.....but taking on Artest really doesn't seem like the type of move ( nor risk ) that the Spurs FO has taken in the past.

OH please, the fans were booing him EVERYTIME he touched the ball. Obviously, he wanted to give them some entertainment. Ron feels that the NBA is 90% entertainment, and he's right. Fans pay money to see teams A) put on a good show and B) win.

Artest isn't this "monster" you make him out to be. Did you know that he has been going through his daughter having CANCER? They took out cancer that was the "size of a softball" and he's been having to play through it. It's been a tough year for Artest, not many people could handle being charged with abuse AND having a daughter you can BARELY see going through cancer.

I have no doubts that Ron would behave himself on this team. The only issue would be how much we have to give up to get him, especially considering that he may be just a half-season rental.

Artest would make us the best defensive team in the league and give us anohter scoring threat. But the biggest question is can Artest check his ego at the door?

I think you'd be hard pressed to find any Pacers fan (as CableKC is) who doesn't already know how good of a guy he is off the court. He takes care of his family. He does a lot of charity work. Right now, his daughter is dealing with cancer. However, that doesn't really ever translate onto the court. Ron on the court is a different man than the Ron at home with his family. It's just that simple.

I want him regardless, I think we can handle his attitude..

I want Elson gone anyways, I can't stand him..Barry is a good player, but it's not like we don't have any other shooters on the team..we also already have Vaughn and Damon to back up the PG position..the picks aren't that important..

if it doesn't work out, he's off the books..we get Splitter, and we have room to sign a FA..and it's an odd year..

Return to San Antonio Spurs
