Healthy Washington and Orlando are pretty even-handed, except that Washington hasn't played healthy all season. With the big 3, they have lots of ammunition, but a dinky little pistol to shoot with. It's been a while since the Wizards trio played together with any success, and a few Arenas games at the end of the year won't put them level with a cohesive Magic team. There is the rust and conditioning factor as well--unless Arenas comes back in the next couple of weeks and gets himself in game shape, it's going to be tough to jump right into a playoff series. I would be surprised if Thomas plays this season. Wizards, I think, would be a better team in the second round than in the first. If they face the Magic in the first round, however, they won't have that opportunity.

What chemistry issues? The Big 3 has been together 3 seasons. THese guys know how to play together. AD, Haywood, Stevenson, Mason, Blatche, and Songaila, the other core guys, have been here for a minimum of 2 seasons.

Your rationalization only goes one way. Haywood is a decent defender, but it will be tough to guard Dwight from the bench in constant foul trouble. Dooling has a much better chance of slowing down Arenas than Haywood does Dwight. Dooling is one of the best defensive PG's in the East and he would be a huge part of why i think the Magic would win the series. Dooling has shut down some extrememly good guards over the last month or so. Iverson, Billups, Ray Allen...

Arenas averaged 30 ppg, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists against Orlando last season. Granted that was last season, but Dooling was still a member of that team - and he didn't really manage to stop Arenas.

And Haywood isn't just a decent defender - he rates as one of the best defensive bigs in the league. He does a great job against nearly every big in the league except for the quicker ones that can draw him away from the lane (like an Okur). Howard is not that type of player - and Howards game is limited to putbacks and dunks. As for the "foul trouble" - well you're using that in a one-sided fashion, don't you think? :D

I still think a healthy Wizards team would beat Orlando. I'm not sold on Orlando being a top tier East team.
