Screw signing and trading Dale Davis, lets sign and trade Victor Alexander, Don Reid, Tony Delk and Danny Manning!

Dale Davis is probably not officially retired, so therefore he can be used in a sign and trade. He may not ever suit up, maybe never practice, but if they haven't submitted their retirement papers to the league, they can be used in a trade.

Great thread by the way.

This does open things up a bit. 7-13mil in cap space. How about
Krilenko?
Jefferson?

The league office said it would carefully examine the Van Horn deal because he hasn't played in over a season. So, the guys you listed above would definitely be shot down by the league.

Didn't Van Horn retire due to injury?

I am now wasting valuable time that could be spent on studying animal physiology and looking up trades that would involve all of our expirings+Dale Davis for a stellar big man.

Cause if he did it leaves about 48 hours to get HIM from the nets to back up Tay.

We could do Dale Davis (at Amir's salary), Primoz Brezec, Walter Hermann, and Flip Murray for Eddy Curry.
But we wouldn't be able to take anybody back and they have a full roster.
Hm.

Its a nice try, but as i have previously stated, Eddy Curry is so useless and such a non-Piston (if one believes in the Piston mentality) its mindblowing.

They didn't make Aaron McKie suit up for Memphis, did they?

Actually, they did make him report to Memphis, take a physical, and practice with the team before he was let go.

sign and trade

Post#35 » by hunting4fun » Wed Feb 20, 2008 4:19 pm

As much as i would like to see a true center in detroit and move rasheed to pf and bring mcdyess off the bench along with johnson and maxiell i think we could also use a solid athletic sf. I would even trade tay if we could get a richard jefferson or a shawn marion type player. I think tay disappears to much. I actually think he is the best player on the pistons but he doesnt have the head for it. I dont know where he goes or what happens but he disappears for huge stretches of games sometimes.
Do you guys think tay and richard jefferson could coexist on the same roster?

The dale davis sign and trade would work because he hasnt filed retirement papers yet. If Joe d could pull something off using dale i would be all for it.

The Nets have 14 players, we have 15. We could do a 2-1 or 3-2.
We could do Tayshaun and Amir's contract (a proxy for what Dale Davis would be worth) for Richard Jefferson, but would they? He's a superior player and negligibly younger. While his stats when controlled for minutes per game aren't *that* much better, he is certainly far more consistent than Tayshaun.
They wouldn't need Dale Davis though, and it's likely they don't covet Tayshaun enough (or want to move RJ badly enough) to go through with a trade.

^Really?
Doing nothing is better than making better use of our end-of-the-bench players?
Doing nothing is better than being savvy and using an asset we didn't even know we had?

We are obviously championship contenders at this point, but that doesn't mean that we should fail to make an improvement when the opportunity arises.

Many of us did not want to extend McDyess for 2-3 seasons, as he may or may not be hampering the development of Amir Johnson and/or Jason Maxiell.
We cannot decide if we like Jarvis Hayes or Walter Hermann both, but they can't share playing time. Flip prefers Hayes, yet Joe still has plans for Hermann?
Flip Murray has been buried on our bench and had proven to be our worst rotation player.
Lindsey Hunter hasn't been able to do anything well for a season or two now. Most cringe when he gets the ball on offense. He's only valuable because Flip refuses to use this team's other ball-handlers.
Primoz Brezec is also useless, a hustle-player that simply can't move fast enough to have a tangible impact. He's the *truest* center that we have, but he's our 6th big man at best.
and then Dale Davis!
How can we NOT clear up some space, solidify our roster, confirm a rotation, and make a trade?

There are too many trades in which other GMs beat Joe to the clever punch. Seattle gets multiple first-rounders for taking on Kurt Thomas? How? Teams sell their draft picks and we don't buy? Pau Gasol is had for virtually nothing? and the Pistons *stand pat*?
