Its deadline day! Deadline is 3pm Thursday (TODAY!)

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Thu Feb 21, 2008 6:46 am

Gotta be one of my favorite days of the NBA season :)

Hopefully we'll get some big shockers that come out of no where.

Joe D working the phones :)

We've already got Bonzi Wells and Mike James to Charlotte for Bobby Jackson.

Gives Charlotte some bang off that bench.

_________

Will NJ move Vince?

How about Ron Artest and Brad Miller?

Where's Pietrus going to land?

Can Joe get a 2nd rounder for Flip?

What will the Magic do with all those expiring deals?

Chicago has got to make a move, don't they?

Where will Mike Miller land?

What's Denver going to do to keep up in the West???

Isiah???

The Rockets reached agreement on a deal that will send Bonzi Wells and Mike James to New Orleans to get guard Bobby Jackson, individuals with knowledge of the talks said.

The deal, which has grown to include minor involvement of the Memphis Grizzlies, is pending league approval, with a conference call is scheduled for today for the NBA to review the trade.

The Rockets will make the move to add Jackson as a veteran point guard to play behind Rafer Alston, sending Wells to the first-place Hornets while getting New Orleans to take on the two seasons and $12.7 million remaining on James' contract after this season. Jackson is signed for $6.1 million through next season, potentially offering the Rockets the roster flexibility they did not have this season. The Rockets will also receive rookie guard Adam Haluska and either their own or New Orleans' second-round pick, whichever is greater. They had previously been sending next season's second-round pick to Seattle to complete the trade for the pick they used to draft Carl Landry in the 2007 Draft.

Usually, the NBA trade deadline is fairly boring. But due to all the big trades in the west, this year actually has some interest.

But unless it's a big man to crash, I don't see us making any move. Even unloading poor ole' Flip onto some sorry franchise.

If you're a hockey fan, next week will be the most anticipated day with 50,000 trades just before the deadline expires.

With all the injuries the Red Wings have had, they should be making some noise as well.

A flurry of blockbuster NBA trades have grabbed headlines this month as teams readied for the sprint to the playoffs. And with Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trading deadline, more big could deals come."I don't remember a time," says former San Antonio Spurs center David Robinson, "when so many teams have made such significant changes."But the most significant trade might not involve a star player. Just look at the Utah Jazz. While the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks acquired stars such as 7-footer Pau Gasol, 7-1 center Shaquille O'Neal and All-Star point guard Jason Kidd, Utah has gone 19-3 since acquiring reserve sharpshooter Kyle Korver from the Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 29 in a deal that barely generated a ripple among league pundits.

Players who could be moved Thursday include Memphis Grizzlies swingman Mike Miller, New Jersey Nets swingman Vince Carter, Sacramento Kings swingman Ron Artest, New York Knicks center Eddy Curry and Philadelphia 76ers guard Andre Miller. Kurt Thomas is one of those type of players. Before the Spurs landed Thomas from the Seattle SuperSonics on Wednesday, ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy said he "could help a number of teams who need to bolster their front line." The Grizzlies have proved they're willing to part with quality players, having already sent Gasol to the Lakers. "Mike Miller seems like a prime candidate to get moved because Memphis is obviously trying to.

6 GM's have confirmed that Miami is actively shopping Marion??

If they could pull off mostly expirings and two draft picks for him that would be pretty incredible what they got for Shaq.

Pistons fans here have talked about getting Marion for years.

Prince, Brezec, Hermann, Flip, 08 First would work in the trade checker.

Boy! Joe D IS a mizer! I was hoping he made the play for Kurt and it seemed as he didnt. Now he is going after Magliore who makes $4 million less and expires the same time as Kurt! Well we have trusted him all these years so its no reason to believe he doesnt know what he is doing. Something has to be done cause after the last two games, and even before there were no reasons to believe that the bench as it is currently constructed will do much in the postseason. Work your magic Joe! By the way, I read on this site (RealGM) that Gerald Greene was hoping for a change of address by the deadline.

whoa that would be crazy if Dumars could convert our useless (as far as on-court time this season) expirings for Magloire.

Magloire is useless for The Nets (Williams, Boone, Diop, Krstic, Swift) and they could use a PG for the next couple of weeks while Harris heals.

I'm betting Joe is trying to make a move without using draft picks.

Joe does love his draft picks and usually does good things with them, well, except if they are lottery picks :-)

Flip will get waived - I think Joe is just bluffing about keeping him to see if he can get something for him or to use him in a bigger trade.

I think Joe Dumars will sit down with Flip after the deadline and lay it out for him. That we'd like to keep him as insurance but it would be with the understanding he's the 14th man for us and will likely never dress. Then he'll be given the choice if he wants to stay and accepts said role or we'll cut him with no hard feelings and he could try to catch on somewhere with more playing time to earn his next contract.

has flip had lockerroom issues?

I don't see why we'd waive him, just to waive him. Unless of course thats what he wants.

If were not going to sign anybody with the open roster space why not keep him?

Gerald Green to Houston for Snyder and Wally Szczerbiak to Cleveland for Marshall, Newble and possibly Shannon Brown have also been completed.
