Question!
Hi Suns fan here and not a troll just a basketball fan. My question to u:
Any Laker fans who thinks that there is a better big man than Amare (on our teams and in the NBA)? Not trolling but just asking for ur honest opinions comparing Amare with either Gasol or Bynum or other big men. What are ur thoughts on Amare?
IMO he is playing like a MVP this month.
Thx

Answer! Although I like Amare's toughness I'd pick a lot of other big men over him. Flat out, he's not that big. He's an undersized big that uses quick leaping ability to try and compensate on defense. He is going to be better now with Shaq needing to be doubled and boxed out. But if the question comes down to Amare as a big man by himself, then I'd put these big men ahead of him in no particular order.
Yao
KG
Bynum
Brand
Pau
Dwight
Duncan
Bosh
I'd group Amare with these current bigs:
Boozer
Horford
Emeka
Dalembert
Aldridge
Wilcox
Still good big men it's just they're undersized. And when matched up against the regular Bigs, they can't defend worth a damn.

Ok agree with u mostly
It would be funny if we'd play in 2nd round in the PO..maybe the Suns lose 4-0 against u, i pick u winnig it all u have the best player in the NBA, the best young C , one of the best forwards in Gasol, a deep bench, a great coach.
I think the Suns would lose 4-0 or 4-1 against u guys..because we only have a average team with Nash,Amare,Shaq,Barbosa,Diaw and Bell (he is bad) the rest sucks. and the first 3 guys are not that good, Nash cannot defend, Shaq cannot defend and Amare cannot defend, Shaq is slow and fat, Nash is declining and getting old, Amare is not that great, his numbers are overrated and he shoulnd't be an Allstar IMO. Amare is a joke sometimes, i think Pau owes him by far and i think Bynum is already way better than Amare. Amare's contract is overpaid he should be traded in the offseason, SUNS need to rebuild. And his All NBA 1st team selection was a joke, too! He shouldn't be on an All NBA team at all!
Maybe the Suns will lose some games now and won't be in the PO that's a real chance. But i hope the Suns will play against u because that would be more than funny
U guys will win it all and will beat us in the PO.

As much as I hate Amare and the Suns...
I'd put him up in the same Tier as Twight. He isn't as physical but again his footspeed and jumper compensate for that. Just depends on the team that needs him. I believe he's much more of an offensive force then Howard. He also has a midrange game while still being able to maintain a high FG%.
Yao just doesn't cut it for me, for how tall he is to be in the lower end up 50% fg is mind boggling. Amare>Yao
With KG, only thing he has against him right now is his age and his current injury. Still, I'd give the nod to KG as him and Ray have been able to make a huge impact on a franchise. KG is a threat defensively and is a better passer than Amare. Very close but I'd say Amare<KG
Bynum, let's not be a homer here, Bynum I think is going to be amazing in years to come, but here and now, I don't see a team that would choose Bynum over Amare. To early to tell, but for now from what Amare has accomplished... Amare>Bynum
Brand, injured all season, hard to tell, but if you put Amare on the Clippers, one can argue he would be able to make the same impact Brand has on that team. Amare=Brand
Pau's has his advantages over Amare, and likewise the other way around. Amare is a better rebounder IMO. But, fitting in the system their in is a factor and because Lakers are currently the better team Amare<Pau
Duncan is the greatest PF of all time. Amare<Duncan
Howard, as of now Howards defensive ability hasn't really shined as of late, that to me was his advantage over Howard but even his coach is calling him out on it. As of right now I believe their equal but for the season and taking into consideration what's to come Amare<Howard (barely)
All in all, I say Amare is up there with the Top Tier PF/C's... There's a reason he made ALL NBA 1st Team last year. Maybe Nash helped him to that, but he still made it.

I hate the suns..straight up I won't lie...that being said.
I would take Amare over Boozer any day. I might even take him over Dwight because Dwight's a horrible FT shooter. I don't know how someone on this thread put him in the Wilcox category. lol at that.
KG and Duncan now are better than Amare. that's about it. But I would take Amare any day on my team.

He is indeed an All-Star and without him Nash wouldn't have some many assists.
I am of the believe that Nash's assist stats are the product of the PHX system... how do you get assists? - The players that receive the pass has to make the shot. Period.
I'm not saying Amare is the Suns' MVP, but the guy can't be stopped when he tries.

It comes down to what's considered a 'big.'
If a 'big' is a true Center, it's Yao, Shaq, Bynum in a pretty tight race...
If a 'big' is a PF/C with a heavy emphasis on PF, then it's Duncan, KG, Dwight, Amare...
Amare is basically a PF. He's not a versitile as Duncan, Dirk, Gasol and KG, he's not as physical as Dwight, and he's not as big and doesn't have the back-to-the-basket game of Yao, Shaq and Bynum.
It's not really a fair comparison. Amare is one of the best at what he does and depending on the situation, might be a better fit than Dwight or..???
But he also might not be considered a 'big' on any given night either. I mean, he's roughly the same size as Odom...

I think Amare is one of the most underrated players in the league. Most teams dont strategize around amare the strategize to play against nash.... Since amare is the second best player on the team he is over looked. If you stop dwight you basically stop the team. You stop amare and the rest of the suns fill up for him. I would say amare is equally as deadly as dwight, but not while hes playing for the suns. He would have to get into another offense, another team.

I was thinking a little more about this...
If you had to pick one player in the 6' 10"+ area to build a team around, who would it be?
Yao might be a solid foundation for now and the immediate future, Duncan of course, KG for the next couple years...
The Key would be who could be a foundation on both ends of the floor for you.
Yao
Duncan
KG
Dwight
Shaq
You would probably also want someone who could do that for the forseeable future too. So youth might be a factor too...
Yao
Dwight
Bynum
Amare
It's an interesting question but I think it's one of those things where if you think there's a 'RIGHT' answer, you're already wrong.

He literally has everything in his game. Playing in his wrong position for a few years now and is still only 23. I would put Amare just behind Dwight in terms of young bigs breaking through. Probably 4th overall in the league.
I put him up there, im a Laker fan and an Amare/Sun hater =)
