Brady had Moss and Welker and often ignored an open donte stallworth.

We all know that despite his injuries, Donte and the DonnoVAN had a good connection going. Add Curtis into the mix and . . .

So Brady intentionally didn't throw to Stallworth? I don't know about all of that. I don't mind Stallworth. However, he is a very average receiver who for some reason got very overrated in his one 38 catch, injury plagued season here. Again, he is not a bad player, I would have no problem bringing him back, but we definitely upgraded last year when we got curtis to replace Stallworth.

As for Samuel, I think he is going to command an insane amount of money after what Clements pulled down last year in S.F. If I'm not mistaken, isn't Trufant available in Seattle? He probably won't cost as much, and I think he is just as talented.

Not intentionally, he simple looked to his other receivers first, in which case, he would settle for a short gain and miss stallworth with 2 steps in the open field

I don't care for Lito; he's always hurt and is not a great cover guy; he's better at playing the ball than his man... sort of like Asante Samuel.. who I also don't want.

I think Asante Sameul is over-rated and I'd rather the Eagles not get another short corner. If you're going to upgrade over Sheppard/Brown then get someone with the height to cover the taller receivers.

As to the Stallworth thing, I don't mind it if the price is ok. I don't see him as a #1 or #2 and he's way too injury prone. Dante had like 2 or 3 good games with the Eagles and then a couple where he was non-existent and then was injured the rest.

Ideally i'd love to see our receiver corp upgraded to the point where Kevin Curtis could slide into the #3 and mainly play slot and be our Wes Welker.

Ocho Cinco! well I can dream.

I'm with the couple of posters who don't want Asante. I think he is overated.

I really don't want to move Curtis to the slot. We just had a WR put up 1100 yds and everyone wants to move him to the slot.

Slacktard, in my opinion I want no parts of Ocho. Way to much of a headache for a guy who won't really help our offense that much. If we upgrade our WR's, which I don't consider to be one of our biggest priorities, I think it has to someone who will impact our redzone offense, #85 is not that guy in my mind.

We were the #6 offense in the league this year. Our problem was scoring in the redzone. In my opinion the reasons we struggled in the redzone in order are :
1) lack of production from TE
2) McNabb struggling to come back to form
3) an OL who did not play nearly as well as they did in '06

Hopefully a healthy LJ can cure #1, and I believe McNabb will be fine this year. As for #3, I'm not sure what is going to happen with our aging tackles and at LG where I think Heremans really struggled this year.

i have no problem adding donte stallworth and making stallworth, curtis, brown as the WR's.. in fact I think that's a solid group. This team badly needs DE's, and a CB or two.

Wonder what's going to happen to Mike Patterson now that he has been arrested for drugs? Probably just a warning.

Talks of Asante Samuel are heating up, as well as Gibrel Wilson.

Would you be satisfied with an offseason of Donte Stallworth and Asante Samuel (assuming we didnt overpay) ?

Then we use the draft to address pass rushing

Eagles supposedly trying to get Samuel and Fitzgerald. We'll see.

I'd love Fitzgerald, but I don't know that I want to trade Lito. Which we'd probably have to in order to get Fitzgerald.

I think my dream offseason would be Roy Williams from the Lions and Samuel (and a DE from FA or the draft). It'd be awesome to have Samuel, Lito, and Brown. I think it would be interesting to see Brown at safety.

Of course, none of this will probably happen, so whatever.

I thought Arizona wasn't willing to trade Fitz....hmmm

I'd be happy if we ended up with a reciever teh likes of Stallworth or better...solidified the corner position (probably through the draft) and added a returner and pass rusher.

I don't care what comes from where, but I'd rather NOT try another Eagles WR draft pick.

I heard that too. The rumor was, if we got Asante Samuel, we would deal Lito and a 3rd for Fitz.

Extremely unlikely imo.

A more likely scenario is we try to address the secondary, pass and receiving corps, 2 of 3 will come free agency/trades, and the third we will look to fill in the draft.

Honestly, Id love to have a top receiver here again, but I think we could get by with a stallworth type talent. We wouldnt have a number 1 guy but we would have 3 #2s as I see it. Curtis had a good year and Reggie is going to improve in 08 imo, add those 2 to Donte and thats a pretty decent group, worst case scenario, donte is plagued by injuries again and we have to use Jason Avant/Greg Lewis/Hank Baskett to fill in.

Does anyone know if cutting Kearse gives us more spending money for THIS offseason?

"The Eagles have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with safety J.R. Reed and tendered a one-year contract to restricted free agent cornerback Joselio Hanson. If another club signs Hanson to an offer sheet, the Eagles have seven days to match that offer. If they choose not to match, the Eagles will receive a 2nd round draft choice as compensation."

I'm hearing rumors about Asante. I just got a call and an email from seperate people within the last five mins. saying WMMR is reporting we signed Asante.

I know that is weak, I don't have a link or anything. I just thought it was funny I had two different people tell me that within a couple of mines.

Check the Eagles website. They have a lot on there about Samuel and apparently he is going to meet with the Philly media at 4:30. Right now it's schedule as just a Q&A with a visiting player but my guess is that a deal will be agreed to by then (the rumor from ESPN is 6 years/$60MIL).

This seems like a LOT of money to pay for a cornerback who needs a pass rush in order to effective. The signing of Samuel will allow the Birds to trade Lito (to Detroit with a 4th round pick for Roy Williams??) but I think we need to get a DE in the draft to help apply some pressure on the QBs.

Would everyone be happy if we came out of the off-season with the following 3 major additions??

Asante Samuel (free agency)
Roy Williams (trade with Lito/pick)
DE (1st round pick)

With the scenario you just posted, I don't think there will be a DE left who will make an impact this year where we pick. If this scenario happens we would have to hope the Abimiri can have an impact this year.

Also, we would still be very thin at CB and the would have to be addressed with the 1 or 2 pick. Hanson played fine last year, though I think he is more suited to just a Dime CB.

A tipster advised us earlier today that the Eagles are chasing Raiders free-agent defensive end/linebacker Chris Clemons.

Several readers tell us that WIP's "Mini-Reid" is now reporting that Clemons will sign with the Eagles within the next 24 hours.

Since our tipster has proven himself, we'll also disclose that the tipster says cornerback Asante Samuel will be signed today and that the Eagles made a run at receiver Larry Fitzgerald but the Cardinals wanted too much, and that cornerback Sheldon Brown likely will be moved to safety.

Hey, maybe our tipster is Mini-Reid.
Clemons probably won't start (I hope they're not planning on starting him) but he would add depth. Good move IMO, assuming they don't overpay.

Another popular rumor is Lito + #19 Pick for Pats #7. I'm kind of doubting that the Pats would do this, but I hope it goes down. The draft is deep at DE, we could pick up a very good one at #7.

Drafting Gholston would be a dream come true... but it's just a dream at this point (I doubt we'll get the #7 pick, and I think Gholston will probably go higher than 7 anyway).

The Vikings have announced that they have signed fullback Thomas Tapeh, an unrestrictred free ageny who previously played for the Eagles.

Tapeh attended the University of Minnesota and grew up in the Twin Cities. He spent two seasons working with Vikings coach Brad Childress when Childress was the offensive coordinator in Philly.

His arrival means that Pro Bowl fullback Tony Richardson likely won't be re-signed.

Richardson would look good in green

also.. Jerry Porter signed with the Jags (according to Adam Schefter).. I was hoping the Eagles took a shot at him, even though he has some issues. oh well. He's a good fit for the Jags even if he is being overpaid IMO

on Samuel's deal...
It's reportedly a five-year, $47.2 million deal. To the casual fan, that's short of the $10 million per year average from the eight-year, $80 million deal signed last year by Nate Clements of the 49ers. As everyone in PFT Planet knows, the Clements deal is actually seven years and $64 million, making it worth a hair over $9 million per year.

Samuel's deal carries an average of nearly $9.5 million. They could have added a phony final year that would have pushed the average to $10 million per year or more, and we respect both sides for doing what looks to be a "real" deal.

Also, there's a certain irony regarding the five-year duration of the contract. Typically, the Eagles like to lock players up for looooong periods of time. As it now stands, Samuel's deal will expire before the contracts signed by some of the young players who cashed in early.
no complaints from me.. the Eagles appear to be active. Hooray. Now lets see what they do on the offensive side

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
