First off...you're making this trade exclusively for cap-space.

I'm saying that cap-space in the summer of 2009 will have nothing close to the value many here think it will have

I'm thinking that Darius Miles's 9 million dollar salary will have more value as an expiring contract 2 years from now then as cap-space credit 1 1/2 years from now (and of course there is still the unlikely event he retires)

So you're giving away frye and jack for next to nothing in my view. Donyell marshall won't 'replace' frye. For chrissakes, the guy is a bad SF and that's about it. he's no PF and he's sure as hell not a C. And if people hate Jarret Jack, wait till they see what Eric Snow unaccomplishes for portland.

Rudy Fernandez isn't here yet. Dumping a player to clear a roster spot for somebody 22 years old who may still be persuaded to stay in Europe for 10 million more dollars then portland can pay the next 3 years, is premature and unwise.

And the 21st pick in the draft is not worth frye.

I'm not against trading frye and I'm not against trading jack. But I wouldn't trade them for some pie-in-the-sky hopes that things will work out well 18 months from now.

I'm convinced your trade has a lot more chances of working out bad then of working out well.

Update - it's could be Hughes heading to Chicago, which makes Gordon even more expendable. Jack and Frye plus a couple of 2nd rounders?

WTF ????

I respect what KP has done so far but i wonder if he is banking TOO MUCH on Oden and Rudy. I mean Rudy LOOKS like a very good player but so did a lot of other Euro players who played 1 to 3 years in the NBA and jumped back to Europe cause they could not cut it. This is not even taking into account that Rudy MIGHT not come over let's face it Money talks and we just got to hope that Sergio and Rudy's Desire to play on the greatest stage win out and he is a Blazer.

Next you have Oden and this part i feel pretty comfortable in thinking Oden should come back and do good so KP i think is making the right call there. The Blazers have handled the Oden injury VERY well and with all the progress he has made it would be easy for them to rush him back and get him into 5 to 10+ games this season but they will not.

The deadline is about a hour away as this will be posted and looks like No deals with the Blazers will happen. I have to say this is why i would love to know whats been on the table. I mean if it was garbage then yeah KP made a great choice. However i really feel he MIGHT be over valuing certain players Jack , Webster and such. KP is also so worried about rocking the boat and hurting team chemistry. Well i hate to break it to KP but the Blazers ship has a few holes in it and to be honest i wonder if the Blazers are using this youth thing as a crutch.

I want to make it clear i am not saying make a deal any deal for the sake of a trade that would be foolish. I am saying is that the fans have come back for most part and i would guess the Rose Garden is selling out about 90 to 95% of the seats. I think KP owes it to the fans to TRY and make a deal but from all we have heard he is making NO phone calls out. IF this is just a smoke screen so not to effect the team fine. However i am starting to believe he is just willing to wait til Summer thinking he can get more from certain players and i am not so sure.

Last thought NO MATTER what happens or does not i will still support the Blazers but i wonder if KP has let a valuable thing like EXP making a run at the playoffs slip through there hands by sitting on his.

There is an incredibly fine line between overvaluing your players and being taken.

I don't have any inside info, but just from the things we've heard it's not that Portland isn't out there trying to see if they can get anything. Pretty big names like Harris/Granger/Miller have popped up in the past few weeks.

Like you said, making a trade for the sake of doing one is foolish. And you can bet if nothing happens it wasn't because KP wasn't trying. As we all know players of the Harris/Granger/Miller ilk don't necessarily come cheaply. When you aren't looking to deal part of the big three but are hoping to add to it at the same time I would think it makes it hard for a deal to go down.

Sure there could be a periphery trade. A small deal involving Jack or Sergio could happen I suppose. But that isn't going to put Portland in playoff contention, and unless it serves Portland long term there is no need to make a deal.

I think the fact that the deadline is coinciding with Portland basically falling out of the playoff race has made people itching (myself included) for a trade. I applaud KP for at least having his name out there for big assets. And I also applaud him (barring the next 35 minutes) for not making a bonehead move that Portland regrets.

that's more like it, although I'm positive that Chicago would say no

I really hope KP can pull a miracle. This team has grown very boring over the last couple of weeks.

Welp I do believe the trade deadline is here.

Trades can still be announced if they
were handed in before the deadline.

Looks like the Blazers didnt make
any big moves. Sounds like Kevin
did one weird one for Von Wafer.. .

I want to use the word disappointing but with the way they over achieved earlier in the season I just can't. With the way we're playing right now though, it makes me lose some interest.

We need to fire Pritchard.

I don't know what the **** he was thinking, but he just traded Taurean Green to the Denver Nuggets for Von Wafer.

Wafer? He's not going to get any playing time behind Blake, Roy, Jack, and Sergio. Why do we need him?

Also, the trade was with the Denver Nuggets. Why the **** are we helping a division rival? Somebody nominate Pritchard for Executive of the Year, because he just turned the Nuggets into a contender.

****!

I was going to watch the basketball game on TNT tonight, but now I'm not.

Call me when Pritchard is fired.

Yeah you think with AI, Carter and JR Smith this guy Nugz got is gonna get any playing time? Neither team helped out the other with this trade. Both gonna ride the bench the rest of the season.

This isn't a horrible deal...I swear some of you think that Green is a future HoF..

unlikely....

He was a marginal player, who likely wouldn't have made POR roster next year anyway...not with Rudy coming over and another potential lottery pick...and there is also Koponen to think about, who has played very well in europe from reports...Or Freeland for that matter who is dying to come over...

Wafer BTW had a stellar summer league

http://www.nba.com/summerleague2007/pla ... =von_wafer

It is possibe that is where he caught Pritchard's eye, and with Jones' injury, Roy's potential wearing down...I think adding another SG in replacement of Green is not that bad..nor did Pritchard BTW

http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/

regardless, I still believe that Jack will be dealt in the offseason or at the draft (most likely)...

It would have been nice to see POR deal for a banger like Leon Powe...as rebounding has been a severe achilles heel for this team

Me three.

Since we're doing Airplane! quotes (and Odd, you really need "I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue" as your permanent sig :)), I think the only response to Cedric's interesting take on this is "the fog is getting thicker...and Leon is getting larger."

i don't really understand the thinking behind the trade like the spurs-sonics, where now barry has been waived by seattle and he might end up... in san antonio?

^What is there to understand? Their GM, Sam Presti, was hired by the Spurs. They get a low-end first round picks and expiring contracts for Kurt Thomas. They have no need for Barry, so they waive him in his best interests. He can sign with any assortment of playoff teams that are in need of a gunner.
