Damn. Well thanks for the heads up. I can go play fiddle-dee-doo now.
Anywho, on the bright side, we can wait till summer to see anything of significance and continue to watch Thad become a star the rest of the season. And maybe, just maybe, we can make a good enough move in the offseason to become title contenders!!

I'm not overly impressed with the '08 FA class... The thought of overpaying one of these guys keeps me up at night... Patience is paramount... Additionally if I was a betting man, I'm not sure either Arenas or Brand opt out...

Teh 09 class will be nice. Especially if LeBron is still annoyed. He'll be up in 09 right?
As for the Phils, that's yet another oversimplification from you man...do you watch sports or just ESPN recaps of everything? All your opinions seem to reflect very surface information

that's an informed analysis.... i mean, because the dynamics of the phils and sixers are so similar and all.... especially the part about how MLB has no salary cap and the NBA has a stringent one.... also, the respective CBA's and players' unions aren't dissimilar either. Oh yea, and also, Gillick's hands are tied because of the good old Villanova country club boys' network of David Montgomery and company.... also, the current NBA climate lends itself to big summer moves on draft night, etc... and the MLB draft is a completely different animal which makes the trade deadline way more important in baseball.
But other than that, these two GMs are virtually the same person, taking the same approach to the job, right?

We actually will have about 15-16M in 2008 if we only resign Iguodala and Lou 9depends on what they sign for) but the point is valid.
Even if we don't make a splash this summer, we will be in great position next year, with a young team with tradable young assets and cap room. Every year all stars become available at 60 cents on the dollar (AI last year and Gasol this year.)
Give our young guys another year to improve their market value and keep some cap space/Millers expiring and we are primed to add a str to our promising young core.
We don't really have horrible contracts and our core is 19-26, so all's good if you are willing to be patient.

Not to harp on it but let's look at what Gillick has accomplished (this is just from the top of my head):
Traded Thome for Rowand, thereby clearing space for Howard
Signed Tom Gordon
Traded for Freddy Garcia (we all loved it at the time)
Stole Jamie Moyer from SEA
Took Werth, Dobbs, and JP Durbin off the scrap heap and made them valuable parts of our team
Propelled us into the playoffs by acquiring Loshe at the deadline last year
He hasn't overspent, he has made shrewd moves, and I'd be ecstatic if Stefanski took a similiar blue print...
