"The Spurs are the best team in the league" - KG

Post#1 » by Magz50 » Wed Feb 20, 2008 10:20 pm

"People in the West are getting stronger because of the Spurs,'' Kevin Garnett told USA Today. "The Spurs are the best team in the league. You don't have to go by records; they're the champions. Phoenix made their move because of the Spurs. I think the Lakers made their moves because of the Spurs.''

Nice to see KG give the Spurs some love.

Until proven otherwise the Spurs are the best team in the league. The regular season is just a formality to the Spurs.

A) finish with a decent playoff seed
B) have the team healthy and playing well heading into the postseason
C) stick to the game plan

It's the same formula year after year after year in San Antonio and obviously it's working out well for them.
RC Buford and Popp build a team that will win in a 7-game series. They frustrate the hell out of their opponets by playing a "boring" breed of basketball anchored by tough d and the pick and roll.

One thing that never gets boring......Toasting to a championship and getting fitted for a championship ring.
Sooner or later teams will realize that San Antonio is the perfect model. Obviously having Tim Duncan helps. But the development of foreign players in san antonio is second to NONE. Manu was a late 2nd round pick. he's a superstar now. Tony Parker was a late first round pick. He's an all-star and NBA finals MVP. Oberto is another great example of the great job developing foreign players.
And watch out for Ian Manini in the next year or so. He's next in line.

KG knows what he's talking about. he understands the game. Outside of San Antonio i think the Celtics are the closest thing. This is why at the end of the day if both teams can stay healthy i pick the Spurs and Celtics to play in the finals.

I'm in 100% agreement with KG. The Spurs are a perennial power house and have earned the "Best team in NBA" title.

I find it laughable that Ric Bucher and co. get so caught up in the regular season and now doesn't even have the Spurs as one of the top 3 teams in the West (He had them ranked: Lakers, Jazz, Dallas as his top 3 on ESPNEWS last night). Everyone knows the Spurs only half ass it, do enough to get homecourt advantage in round 1 then turn it up a notch come playoff time.

They are better than the Lakers, Jazz, Suns, Mavs, Hornets, Pistons and Celtics and the rest of the NBA until a team proves otherwise when the games start to mean a lot more.

I actually believe you guys have the best team in the NBA this year..the defense comes first, which is what the C's are doing..KG is my 2nd favorite player and has the same mentality as Duncan in terms of his team..I'd be surprised if Boston doesn't win the title, especially when you consider the West battling it out from 1 to 8..Kurt Thomas is great for us and makes us match the West a lot better..I still expect to win the West and play vs. the C's..

anyways..Spurs fans don't give a **** about what ESPN and whoever says..we like being ignored, and then reminding them in June..

wow, I've never seen this before. 2 separate teams fans saying the other is the best in the league. That's cool and a good show of respect. The Spurs deserve the title of best team until someone defeats them though.

I'm sure he is only saying that because because they are the champs. The best team in the league right now are the Lakers. They will be even better when Bynum comes back.

The Lakers have 4 very good players vs our 3. They also have a better coach. Let's face it, after the Gasol trade, the Lakers are the best team in the league. **** the Grizzles for giving Gasol to the Lakers.

WEll I don't think they are the best team in the league. IMO they would have lost to the Suns sans suspension and to DAllas sans upset last year. They lost to Dallas the year before that. Of all the Spurs players only Ginobili is having a career year. I would be surprised if SA came out of the west.

Definitely! But that's the class, only the winners can have. If your team is in the gutter, it's hard to be classy, as we've seen from some of the Spurs fans here vs the losing teams' fans.

With that said, even before the love-fest, I think on the Celtics board here, we pretty much agree that the Spurs are still the team to beat, no matter what. And when it's brought up, there is rarely a disagreement, so I don't think it's just fans being polite. We generally believe it to be true.
