A different discussion

Post#1 » by TheRevTy » Fri Feb 22, 2008 3:09 am

Since the vast majority of topics being posted are depressing rants (with the occasional optimistic view tossed in there) I figured we could maybe get some discussion going. This topic has no intention of digging the trade deadline, nor salary. I was just curious after watching a replay of the game last night.

If contracts or money were no object, and you could add any current player in the NBA to our team, just one player, who would it be? We would not lose anyone, so everyone we currently have on the roster stays on the roster. And, for the sake of the argument, you can't trade anyone (As in, you can't say I would get Player A, and then he would make player B irrelevant, so I would trade Player B for position D.)

I think the default answer to a question like this is Lebron, but, as previously stated, we would have Turk and Shard still on the roster. Would we move Turk to SG and leave Shard the PF, allowing Bron to play SF? Doesn't make sense to me.

I think my top candidates would be Bosh (he would fit amazingly next to Dwight), Chris Paul (obvious reasons, and still young, therefor more appealing than, say, Nash), and, as much as I would hate to say it, Dwyane Wade, though I really don't like him. He is the only SG out there that I think could mesh with our team and is still young.

Ummmm...this is (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Of course the answer is going to be some superstar, and the most obvious answer is like you pointed out, Lebron James. Put him at SG. Discussion over.

Ok, fine, no Lebron. You can pick anyone but Lebron. There.

Now that makes it more interesting! Hmmm...

I guess I would go Chris Paul. A great young PG with an amazing future. Put him next to Dwight and look out. I would say Nash, but Paul is better for the long haul (as Nash is going to start declining in a couple years).

So you would go Paul over Deron?

I agree, I think Deron is pretty arrogant (look at what he has said about some of his teammates in the past. He has no problem throwing those that go to battle with him under the bus).

I would pick Chris Paul too. A top PG with a top C = championships.

LeBron is oubviosly the better talent, but with our roster and our current pieces I think Paul would be the perfect complement.

What about adding a PF? Bosh, Brand, David West?

If it had to be a PF? Hard to answer... I'd probably go with Bosh. His outside jumper would be perfect alongside Howard and he's still young, so it'd be a choice for the future... but obviously Duncan would the the best PF to have in any team.

In that case, shouldn't the Hornets dominate? Well, I guess they kind of are, come to think of it...

Yep, why the hornets are good:
Great PG
Very good (dominant) defensive C
Hustler PF that can hit the jumper
Outside shooters in the rotation.
Easy formula. The problem is to assemble all that. :P

I'm surprised (and happy) no one said Kobe. I live here in LA, and let me tell you, the dude thinks he is God's gift to basketball. They adore him on the sports radio here, except 1 guy, and Kobe won't even talk to that one guy. Big time egomaniac. I'd be curious if Lebron is at all like that.

As a side note, can we get a new story on the front page? It is depressing to see. It is kind of like seeing a defeated presidential bid's bumper sticker on a car after the election.

I have a man crush on Chris Paul

I'd dump everyone not including Dwight for him.

I'd happily do a 14 for 1 trade if the salary cap allowed it, and just have Paul/Howard abuse the league on their own.

kobe is good no doubt ive always been a kobe hater but he has kinda pushed me a little this year in his favor but his age and he past of team problems is more of a concern your getting the whole grade a package with Paul. today i heard a commentator on ESPN saying the hornets have no chance to get to the finals cause short gaurds never prove theirselves in the playoffs (speaking of Paul) i had to change the channel

Ron Harper's Championship Rings > John Stockton's Championship Rings

I actually do think the little PG myth does work out a bit.

Take a look at this list, and tell me which teams had a short starting PG in the last 20 years?

http://www.nba.com/history/finals/champions.html

Note: This works against Jameer as a starting NBA pg for a championship team.
